What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XIII)

2017 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread can be found here;
Further back into the 70's today. Another good 'un.

New release. Features a version of that great song 'Blues Run The Game'.
CD. Edvard Grieg - Lyric Pieces - Emil Gilels (1974).
I have not been tempted to buy other versions of this works.
Adele 25
Adele's 25 will test your system. On my other system the bass can easily become overbearing (Hello) and her voice can seem harsh. Not so on my main system now, but it took a year to get here!
Just swapped in the 4m SL speaker cable for the demo 5m my dealer loaned me for 2-3 months. Been running 4m in for the last two weeks on the other system, which mostly improved with it apart from this one.
3.5m is supposed to be the optimal cable length. I got the impression the 5m cables had lost some sparkle, but the SL DIN XLR is still running in. Any thoughts?
Sounds amazing.

(1989)
Great Canadian rock and this original (Canadian) MCA Label CD sounds really good with a DR close to 14 for those interested in such things.

With the great Albert Lee on the axe!
Nice one Tony I'd totally forgotten about this band! Great stuff you've been playing today.
Father and daughter folk maestros, Martin's voice is strong on this, Eliza is also in great voice, Martin's guitar playing is typically sensitive and subtle, Eliza is now one of our best trad fiddlers (in my view anyway). Well chosen songs, mainly obscure traditional numbers, 1st listen having bought it from Eliza at the merch table at their gig last night, traditional folk at its best.
Have not played this in a long, long time, on original vinyl...
After a clean on the RCM it is sounding pretty good, much better than I remember!
LP3, on vinyl...
(1977)
At the time this live album got played a heck of a lot, one of those great live nights where the action builds and builds as the night rolls on. I still love it.
Sumptuous...Try 'Willow' for superb dynamics and communicable emotion.

The boys being quite grim (what's new?), but evocative and beautiful at the same time.

See her recent version at Rockpalast in 2009....
WATER INTO WINE were a seventies British band known for their acid folk music and overtly Christian lyrics. The band is generally considered part of the loosely-formed 'Jesus Movement' of musicians who proselytized through popular music. Contemporaries included CAEDMON and MALCOM AND ALWYN in the UK, and groups such as PETRA and CHILDREN OF THE DAY in the United States.
CD. Concertos For Flute by Ibert, Jolivet and Rivier - J. P. Rampal
Another gem from the Philips 50 box-set, Accardo and the Gewandhaus under Masur's baton playing Bruch Concertos 1 & 2 and the Scottish Fantasy. The orchestra are excellent, and Accardo's beautiful tone and fluidity bring out the sheer beauty and romanticism of the Bruch.
Stu Larsen - Resolute
This is growing on me.
Chris Cunningham - If You Knew All Along
Nice and relaxing but still manages to draw you in.
Joe Jackson - Night and Day
Here's an album I couldn't get my head round after the Look Sharp and I'm the Man years. This once seemed too musical. And less angry. I've finally caught up with Joe, circa 1982.
Sounding good on 'original vinyl' as we say in these parts.
another new release (Zola Jesus - appreciate that the writing on the cover is certainly a challenge to identify who it is), getting its first listen and enjoying what I hear....'zoning out'. I have her earlier albums & if you are in the mood for something just a bit different it is well worth a listen.
I hadn't decided whether to get this or not, I saw Kevin-W's comments yesterday and that inspired me to give it a stream. Tonight's not a great night for SQ from Tidal here, it seems a bit recessed and lacking dynamics, whereas most nights I get near to NAS streamed WAV. I loved the 1st couple of tracks despite that, was going to stop listening and move to something else while choosing vinyl/CD to rip/hires options for getting this, but even with the recessed SQ I've been hooked and kept listening, damn Neil's good.
