What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XIII)

2017 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread can be found here;

I've just ordered the CD on the earlier recommendation as I don't stream. Looking forward to it myself.

Dusty in Memphis
Watched the BBC4 program on 'Dusty' last night and had to play this. A reminder of how the shy Mary O'Brian excelled on stage as Dusty. One of the most gifted pop stars of the Sixties through to the Nineties, albeit with periods of withdrawal, capable of performing many genres. Also known as the White Negress because of her soul singing.
By the way, this is an amazing CD.

Dougie Maclean
New Tomorrow - CD Rip
- New Tomorrow
- Garden Wall
- Shadow of the Mountain
- Demetrius
- Thunderbolt
- Wild and Windy Night
- Never Enough
- Wisp of a Whisper
- Lost in the Wilderness
- Always Waiting Here
Gentle start on this wet and windy Sunday morning from one of the best folk singers ever.
Edward
Nothing like a bit of Vivaldi on a hungover Sunday morning, is there? Fine performances on this Warner Classics CD, with just the required amount of zip.

Adele 25
Adele's 25 will test your system.
Her constant caterwauling, the endless whinges about her ex and the sheer sameyness of her overblown beiege ballads certainly test my patience, and I'm sure my system would feel the same if it were forced to play Adele.

I have to agree, I watched the TV prog (for the 2nd time) & I changed the CD rip for a Rhino/Atlantic 2012 release in 24/192 WAV. Her exceptional voice is one thing, but the move to Atlantic & the American Sound Studio bought out an emotion to her voice that did not come through in her earlier work. I have booked a date with her for later tonight

100%, couldn't put it better myself, unfortunately a significant other in the house has all three of her albums, but I notice these days I don't get to hear the caterwauling so much. I found the '25' album cover repulsive & it offends my senses when browsing the app, so I changed it to something a little less offensive.
I haven't played this album for years, but I find it quite infectious, especially the last track, 'Stars in my Crown', which is utterly divine.
Kev, Mike, All, Imagine Adele 55 ;-)
Here it's John Martyn - One World
It's never too early for this glorious record.
Having just enjoyed that Waterson Carthy album I was minded to play this beautiful album from the incomparable Norma.
Jan Willem de Vriend - Beethoven: symphonies 2 & 3

I think you have both proved my point!

Sampling via Tidal. There seem to be a new brand of singing ladies with trumpet to emerge...
Handel always cheers me up. So here is one of his best-known works in a wonderful performance by Trevor Pinnock and the English Concert. Digitally recorded, but it's on vinyl and sounds rather splendid.
Moving to a house where the neighbours are not through the livingroom wall in 3 weeks. Ideal for moments like this...and it just has to be loud!

I just read your post and thought I'd join you with this one. The title track and Starless most definitely need to be played at realistic levels IMHO.

I like that! When my wife tells me it's too loud I can tell her it's realistic...

I don't like Richard Galliano's instrument so much, but within this context it works.
