2017 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread can be found here;

Not just because it's a lovely album but it was so very well recorded, I was tempted to play the MFSL CD rip, perhaps later...

I love both records John. Different people from different places can, in different times, give you the same intensity.....

Totally. Amazed how few nods this guy gets on this thread. Truly phenomenal talent and a mainstay in this Household. If you don't know him start here:
Investigating the many discs that's my Unitiserve has erroneously dumped into 'Various Artists' and uncovered this long unplaced gem:
Personally, I sometimes struggle with Bach. Whilst I can clearly hear that he was a genius and a groundbreaker for others, having heard the heights that others like Mozart and Beethoven took his innovations on to, I often find it difficult to get enthused to listen to his Orchestral works in preference to their more developed versions.
However, I find his works for solo instruments is where his genius is obvious, richly rewarding and gripping stuff. I can imagine a 1700's farmer coming in from the fields to the local Cathedral, hearing the organist play Toccata and Fugue and having the absolute fear of God and the horrors of Hell drilled into his soul as he listened. If he didn't believe in God before he walked in he darned well did afterwards! Then he gets Jesu, Joy of Mans Desiring to comfort him that redemption is also available in Heaven! the old one-two!
Earlier started with this one, nice classical crossover...
Now moved on..
Blu Ray. New Year Concert 2016 - Wiener Philharmoniker - Mariss Jansons

A very underrated band in the UK who made some great albums. I missed the Capital records gig that they used for the Live 77 album as I was ill which I have always thought was brilliant. Play it in the car a lot.
