I so enjoyed Moon Duo earlier that I thought I'd listen to some more. Here's the last album Shadow of the Sun, on red vinyl, signed by Ripley and Sanae with a free 7"
We often ignore the works that have become ingrained in popular culture and don't visit them as often as we should ...
Tchaikovsky 1812 Festival Overture
Herbert von Karajan / Berlin Phil
CD rip on US
Initial choraleabsolutely magnificent with all the voices so clear and those deep bass voices so Russian
... and those crescendos so well-defined
... and yet tender in places.
If I was still in the market for HiFi components then this would be one of my main test tracks.
... so now on to Beethoven's 5th tomorrow and some Beatles
(1975) - 1986 compilation reissue...
01 White Light / White Heat
02 What Goes On
03 Venus In Furs
04 That's The Story Of My Life
05 Here She Comes Now
06 Beginning To See The Light
07 Jesus
Side 2
08 Run Run Run
09 Some Kinda Love
10 The Gift Reed, Tucker
11 I'm Set Free
12 I Heard Her Call My Name

Have you tried the Telarc Hi Rs digital recording of 1812? When I first had it, with my previous speakers, I had to play it unreasonably quietly or the cannons made my speakers overload unpleasantly. Since changing my speakers last year i can play at proper level - though my amp warning light tells me it is starting to clip, despite 500w available! That doesn't say anything about the music, but if you want as a demo/test... the music seems fine, but I haven't compared with other recordings other than the older recording also by Telarc on CD with less dynamic range.
Great discovery, and for free....
(1974) - 1981 reissue...

I'm in a bit of melancholic mood tonight, Kev. Getting those old tapes out and playing them seems to have a very cathartic effect.
Last one for today..
Queen, Greatest Hits, because I have had a pleasant evening watching a few films with my son and drinking a few bacardis, and this album makes me feel young again. Flac via Audirvana/Hugo
