What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XIII)

2017 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread can be found here;
Gary Numan, Savage (Songs from a broken world), what an excellent month for new albums, first Tori Amos with a modern classic and then this brilliant album. If you haven't listened to Gary recently you should really give it a try because it's excellent. Tidal via Audirvana/Hugo

Streaming Qobuz. Forgotten Melodies - Nikolai Medtner - Irina Ossipova
Now playing.....
Norma Winstone - Manhattan in the Rain
Taking a lead from ERICH and taking out Norma for a spin. The first track is fantastic, looking forward to the rest of the album!

David Fanshawe - African Sanctus - vinyl
I bought this LP after watching the BBC 1975 Omnibus documentary on its conception. Playing it now for the first time in years! It's an amazing musical experience, which demonstrates how the musical traditions of Africa should be valued as much as our own. It has been performed over 1000 times. I believe it may be available on down load sites.
As Wikipedia puts it
In African Sanctus the Latin Mass is juxtaposed with live recordings of traditional African music, which the composer recorded between 1969 and 1975 during a journey up the Nile, from the Mediterranean Sea to Lake Victoria. The work consists of 13 movements and follows the journey of the composer through Africa. The recordings are from Egypt, the Sudan, Uganda and Kenya.
A key moment in the conception of African Sanctus came at the beginning of Fanshawe's 1969 journey, in Egypt. Sitting in a Christian church he heard the muezzin of a nearby mosque calling the faithful to prayer, and imagined this beautiful sound in counterpoint with Western choral harmony.[2] Originally entitled African Revelations, African Sanctus was first performed in London by the Saltarello Choir in July 1972, and was later played on BBC Radio on United Nations Day.

What a talented lady Ms Gardot is. I've yet to hear anything from her that I don't like.
Foo Fighters, Concrete and Gold, third new album this month and first listen. So far so good, varies from chilled to full on rock even in the same song. Think I like it. Tidal via Audirvana/Hugo
Spyro Gyra - Incognito (vinyl)

Another good performance of Bach's six partitas.
His Art of Fugue is imho superb and highly recommended - it's also my favourite AofF (on piano)

Upon reflection his hands seem to reach right down inside the soul of the CDS player,
perhaps to play the counterpoints? : )

CD. W. A. Mozart - Violin Concerto No. 5 (Türkisch) - Hilary Hahn / Paavo Järvi
While he is better suited for the more gentle pieces, a decent coverage...

This new Telemann recording is teriffic. It's very spritely and uplifting, and has a lovely sound.

Beethoven's "Pastoral" symphony: 96/192 download from Channel Classics playing through Uniti Nova. Superb sound and beautiful interpretation and playing. Very highly rated by "The Gramophone". A wonderful way to relax on a Tuesday morning.

Listening to No. 33 in B-flat, K319 composed in 1779. Mozart added the Minuet (3rd movement) in 1782. Wonderful Historically Informed Performance (HIP) from Abbado and his Bologna band!
