2017 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread can be found here;
Now listening to his new album, like his playing...

Seven strings and more for the first coffee of the morning:

Mancini - The Pink Pather film score which works nicely as a 'lounge' album! SACD.

Vinyl

Last few albums before everything is packed for our house move next week...yikes! Hope I can set everything up OK in the new place.

Going a bit deeper in his discography....

Louche in extremis...G

After a few Tidal listens, a shiny new download of my own. Neil's amazing on this album.
Blue Note trip - Sunset / Sunrise
Nice mixture of jazz songs on this sunny afternoon.

I need to spend more time with Monteverdi…this is from the series with Anthony Rooley and the Consort of Musicke, Emma Kirkby, etc.

Since Walter's death I have listened to a lot of Steely Dan both CD and original vinyl. I have always loved the Dan and one of my biggest musical regrets is that we had tickets to see them play Sheffield City Hall in 1973/ 4 not quite sure of the exact date however, the show had to be cancelled due to Fagan being ill. So been a fan of their music for a long time and it has been interesting to do personal retrospective of their music and this brilliant album IMO is one if not the best of the bunch. (RIP Walter)

The Royal Scam ( Original 1976 UK black ABC label vinyl.

Earlier this afternoon but not impressed...

Then moved to this one, ok but kind of mixed feelings..

...first try nice...

A nice trio jazz effort..

(1967)
Why? Because it's still the 50th anniversary innit.

1971 - vinyl - US pressing(1973)...
Freddy Kempf - Bach / Busoni, Rachmaninov, Ravel and Stravinsky

1974 - vinyl - UK pressing...

2nd listen through in a row after downloading today. The third great singer-songwriter I loved who's left a masterful last album in the last 2 years, I think I love this even more than Blackstar and You Want It Darker. Gregg only co-wrote one of the songs here, but he chose incredibly well, the covers are thoughtful songs on life and death, and he sings them as well as he's ever sung, he takes ownership of the lyrics and phrases stunningly. Hard to pick a standout number, Jackson Browne's Song for Adam, Tim Buckley's Once I Was, the Dead's Black Muddy River, Allman's own My Only True Friend, Dylan's Going Going Gone, but the others aren't filler. Great album, a repeated line from true friend is "I hope you’re haunted by the music of my soul when I’m gone", I am.

(1967)
Another wonderful sounding demi-centurion from this vinyl box ripped to CD.
Fred Hersch - Open book.
Checking out his new solo album.
