Now Playing.....
Lucinda Williams - West
This is one fantastic album, great vocals, lyrics, and music!
In the Hollies Style - mono vinyl -1964
Playing this for the first time in ages on the Thorens TD124 mk 2, now back from Loricraft after having had the speed change switch capacitor replaced. It now stops the motor on 0 speed setting and does not make a clicking noise periodically when it emits rf to the cartridge. Really sounding good, and worth listening to if you can get it on Tidal.
I liked the Hollies more than the Beatles because of their songs and musical style. They were best known for their pioneering and distinctive three-part vocal harmony style. The Hollies became one of the leading British groups of the 1960s (231 weeks on the UK singles charts during the 1960s; the 9th highest of any artist of the decade) and into the mid 1970s. The group was formed by Allan Clarke (sofa left) and Graham Nash (middle standing) in 1962 as a Merseybeat type music group in Manchester, although some of the band members came from towns north of there. Graham Nash left the group in 1968 to form the supergroup Crosby, Stills & Nash.

What with their new album just released and NickPeacock getting to see them at the weekend, I thought I must give The Black Angels fine debut album a whirl.
Harry Allen - Love Songs Live!
This is one of HH's recommendations and it is gorgeous.
Soothing through oozing smoothness.
An oldy now....

I'm on vacation right now and reading this superb Julian Barnes novel based on traumatic episodes in Shostakovich's life. This work is referenced as one he was desperate to get written before Stalin's murderous claws closed on him. The book is very highly recommended .
On vinyl...

More Black Angels required so, here goes Phosphene.
Should listen this more..
First, The War on Drugs - A Deeper Understanding
Then, The Bad Plus - Suspicious Activity
As I do chores.
Wynton Kelly (with Wes Montgomery) - Complete live at the Half Note.
Michael McDonald - Wide Open
Only a couple of tracks in and this is already showing belter potential.
l love this guy's voice.
(1967)
One thing often leads to another (musically) so it makes sense to drag this out after listening to The Black Angels. Its been a while...
A definitive double vinyl compilation album of Lovers Rock from Soul Jazz Records
I came on here looking for inspiration, but couldn't find anything to suit my mood. Hence, it'll have to be In Tune on BBC Radio 3 FM.

What more could you wish for? Fabulous programme and I’ve lost count of the number of CDs and downloads triggered by my daily listening to said BBC prog

Indeed so, but the tuner was a bit birdie this evening, so playing this instead:
Danny Grissett - The In-Between
From Amazon.com:
Pianist Danny Grissett decided to name his fifth Criss Cross recording The In-Between to evoke the experience of flying back and forth between New York, where he is a first-call sideman for, among others, Jeremy Pelt and Tom Harrell, and Vienna, Austria, where he has lived with his wife and small son for several years. Joined by tenor saxophonist Walter Smith, an acquaintance since both attended the Thelonious Monk Institute in the early aughts, bassist Vicente Archer, a partner of long-standing, and great drummer Bill Stewart, Grissett offers a mix of five originals, four personalized standards, and a lovely ballad by his wife.
(2009)
Wooden Shjips Dos', lovely fuzzy Bay Area psychedelic rock.
Gorillaz - Demon Days
Deep, tight bass driving it all along very nicely.
Elgar - Violin Concerto. Znaider/Davis/ Staat. Dresden. Recorded in 2009. CD-rip. Nice.
Continued the journey with Peter...
