The 552 seems to have settled in now after a two week warm up period. I reckon it was improving steadily during the first week after switch on. Currently enjoying this album which was a reference  choice for hifi demos on its release in 1988.

Listening to Concrete Love by Julia Fordham, great recording, soaring vocals, worth a listen.

Indeed. It took me a while to get into Concrete Love when it came out owing to the use of drum machines instead of a real drummer. I recall exchanging a few mails with Julia on the topic, but she said she was trying to capture a more contemporary sound. Once I'd got over the issue, I realised it is rather good. I particularly like the songs 'Foolish Thing' and 'Missing Man'. Superb. The live album entitled 'That's Live' presents some of the songs from Concrete Love very well too.

After the brief excursion to Julia Fordham I'm reverting to Caravan. This is arguably their best known album and justifiably so, although that's not to say the others aren't worth having in your collection, of course! This original vinyl is a super-clean pressing. And Steven Wilson hasn't been anywhere near this mix, thankfully.

Listening to the mono vinyl part of this deluxe box set. Compared to the battered UK first press mono LP I have, this record is completely silent - but it's nowhere near as engaging. In fact, it's a bit flat and lifeless. I wonder what they did to it?

And now this. Which is lovely.

Another of Kenji Yoshino's superb transfers, on Japanese SHM CD. What a pity that thus far only two BG albums have appeared in this format...

Dave McKenna, Scott Hamilton & Jake Hanna - Major League

Good swinging jazz!

From allmusic.com:

An encore of the swing trio that starred on No Bass Hit (a co-op record released under Dave McKenna's name), the matchup of tenor saxophonist Scott Hamilton, pianist McKenna and drummer Jake Hanna is quite exciting. There is no need for a bassist with McKenna's left hand present. Highlights include Buck Clayton's "Swinging at the Copper Rail," "Linger Awhile," "September In the Rain" and "It All Depends On You." Highly recommended.
