What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XIII)

2017 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread can be found here;
Haim Ronen posted:Viola da gamba and lute, a good remedy after listening to the news.
Thanks Haim, really enjoyed looking out this one & listening - now on my list!
Hungryhalibut posted:MDS posted:Hungryhalibut posted:So many others have played this recently that I thought I should too. It's a super album, with nice improvisation that you don't get on some of the rather too polished studio albums, and ideal whilst cooking a Rick Stein sea bass recipe.
Is this a different album from her "Live in Paris" which also has Fly Me to The Moon, HH?
It's the same album. This is the cover it had when first released.
Its not quite the same album, both are from the same live event, some minor differences in tracks at the end. One Night in Paris was the UK release, Live in Paris is for the rest, I'm not sure why it was done this way & am still at a lost as to why not released as a download. Due to the long delay between recording & release I suspect some issues with copyright.
Now listen up you men, If you like DK & the material she uses on 'Live in Paris' then you cannot miss this. Its not 'live' as such but all the tracks are the ensemble recorded in one take - 'live' for want of a better word - in the studio.
Claire Martin 'Too Much In Love to Care' . I advise get the 24/192 or 24/96 (same price) from Linn Records

The Xyl File by Chuck van Zyl
Re-released with a thirty minute bonus track in 2017 there are some ninety minutes of very good Berlin school electronica here. (Thanks to Gary Shaw of this parish for finding this one for me!)
Otis Taylor Live official recording unreleased.
George Harrison. All Things Must Pass (1970). Remastered on 2 CDs from 2001. A seminal album from my youth that I still get deeply involved with today. I'm not sure a greater cast of rock musicians has ever been assembled.
Starting this morning with the Brandenburg Concertos

Just finished listening to The Distance, their latest release, I'm struggling with it at the moment its nothing like their excellent and more accesible Return From Dreaming.
Starting Sunday with something very fishy...
Blonde on Blonde is just such a superb album - that I can listen to over and over again - and the track Visions of Johanna is just simply outstanding and works on so many levels.
Listening via CD on my trusty CDX2 mk1 - which really brings out the warmth and rhythmic energy in the recordings
It is an Otis Taylor day in my wifes Charity offices whilst I do a lot of painting.
The Jayhawks- Paging Mr Proust. 2016. Tidal.
Because I read that they have been recording as Ray Davies backing band for his new album. http://www.rollingstone.com/mu...americana-lp-w462415
Having been a keen fan for years, I rather lost interest in The Jayhawks after Mockingbird Time, giving this one another shot now.
Back in late 1985, A Certain Ratio started selling an excellent tape of them live in the USA earlier in the year. This is it, and it sounds fantastic...

This one with about twenty five minutes worth of extra tracks recorded live at Woodstock, Savor, Soul Sacrifice and Fried Neckbones.
Dexter Gordon 'Our man in Paris' with Bud Powell. Great performance of jazz standards.
Eric Clapton

Anna Meredith - Varmints
Released about a year ago, it had completely passed my by, only heard it for the first time this week. I have no idea how to describe it, other than to say the opener, Nautilus is utterly bonkers and things just move on from there. Fascinating and enjoyable.
Britfunk in excelisis on an excellent compilation CD. The Linda Lewis, Brian Auger Oblivion Express and Cymande tracks are worth the price of admission on their own:
on CD. One of the best albums from the 80's.

Is this the 'lost' album - recorded in the early 70s and not released until now? I have a few Terry and the Prates albums which I like (with John Cipollina). How do you find this one?
