Emily Barker - Dear River

I had played a couple of Emily's albums previously 'Sweet Kind of Blue' & 'Despite the Snow' and enjoyed them, so looking at another album. A sweet voice......

Hey Bert, if you are reading, or anyone else, I'm starting to find a groove in this.

Old but still great examples of how classical music has it's beauty...

Wonderful Mahler 2nd with Rattle/CBSO recorded in 1986

MAHLER: SYMPHONY NO.2[2CD)[remaster)

Coincidentally, I recently returned home from a holiday, switched on the system and decided to listen to just this recording, which blew me away once again.

Sometimes, the performance gets criticised for ragged orchestral playing, but this is nonsense.  The CBSO had been trained for several years by Rattle himself and whilst it doesn't have the smooth upholstered sound of Rattle's BPO recording, there is an enthusiasm for and love of the music which comes across vividly and which I much prefer to Berlin smoothness.  The same applies to the chorus.  And Janet Baker's hushed singing in "Urlicht" is sui generis; her performance always sends shivers down my spine.  Some reviewers complain about the recording but on my system it sounds magnificent and goes to show just how good the 272/250 can sound.

Portico Quartet - Art in the Age of Automation

Running with mention from CHRISTOPHER_M above, i.e., "I'm starting to find a groove in this," and taking it out for a spin. Certainly found a groove in the opening track "Endless" and looking forward to rest of the album.

This brings back fond memories of being taken there as a kid to see them perform at the RAH in the late 60s or early 70s. Thanks Gianluigi

Strange album, melting of different styles, not sure if I could get in love with it...
