Anyone here familiar with the music of Al Petteway?

I’ve just discovered this lovely album via Radio Paradise - and ordered a copy.

John.

John, I saw this and stuck it in the Tidal My Music file and have just got around to playing it. Not just wonderful guitar playing, but wonderful music and compositions. Very enjoyable. Great shout.

My favorite Uri Caine recording whom I saw perform live at the University of Chicago. Not too many musicians can make Wagner sound like fun.

Sean Rowe - Her Songs

Sean Rowe - Her

Comments on the 'Anti' web site: SEAN ROWE HAS JUST RELEASED A NEW EP ENTITLED HER SONGS. THE RECORD AND ITS ACCOMPANYING VIDEOS DOCUMENT THE ACCLAIMED SINGER-SONGWRITER AND GUITAR PLAYER DELIVERING ACOUSTIC VERSIONS OF SIX COMPOSITIONS WRITTEN EXCLUSIVELY BY FEMALE ARTISTS - SADE, CAT POWER, NEKO CASE, REGINA SPEKTOR, LUCINDA WILLIAMS AND FEIST. THE RECORD AND FILMED PERFORMANCES COMBINE TO SERVE AS AN IMMENSELY POWERFUL TESTAMENT TO ROWE’S INTERPRETATIVE GUITAR AND VOCAL TALENTS.

INITIAL REACTIONS HAVE BEEN NOTHING SHORT OF PHENOMENAL. ELMORE MAGAZINE WROTE, “ROWE’S BOOMING, RESONANT BARITONE INFUSES THE TRACKS WITH AN EVOCATIVE, SEARING POWER. THE BEST COVERS CAN RE-FRAME A BELOVED SONG IN A NEW LIGHT, AND ROWE’S EFFORTLESS MASCULINITY LENDS A NEW TINGE OF REMORSE TO THE BALLAD, REMINISCENT OF THE ICONIC BALLADEER JOHNNY CASH.” UPON HEARING HIS RENDITION OF HER “SOLDIERS SONG,” LUCINDA WILLIAMS PROCLAIMED “THIS IS THE BEST COVER OF ANY OF MY SONGS THAT ANYONE HAS EVER DONE. I AM COMPLETELY MOVED.”

I've had this album for very many years, initially on vinyl and then CD when I always preferred the later DS albums.  And then when I got a Naim system the merits of this album revealed themselves. These days I rate this and the earlier Dire Straits as my favourite and most-played DS albums.

2 x CD - Nuova Era Records © 1988 : )

Piolo Borciani - violin
Elisa Pegreffi - violin
Tommaso Poggi - viola

Luca Simoncini - cello

Recordings Bergamo, May 1985

Enjoying this string quartet version. It's vibrance is more upbeat than the usual AofF but no lacking in sincerity : )

Sean Rowe - The Salesman and The Shark

Sean Rowe - The Salesman and The Shark

Comments on the 'Anti' web site:

ON HIS NEW ALBUM 'THE SALESMAN AND THE SHARK,' ROWE HAS CREATED A WORK THAT BRILLIANTLY RECONFIGURES CLASSIC SOUNDS IN SUPPORT OF HIS INTENSELY OBSERVATIONAL LYRICS AND THE REMARKABLE EVER EVOLVING VOCALS WHICH INSPIRED NO DEPRESSION MAGAZINE TO SUCCINCTLY STATE, “MAN, THAT VOICE.”

'The Salesman and the Shark,' is a creative tour de force showcasing Rowe’s gifted writing and absolutely astonishing voice. It was recorded live at historic Vox Recording Studios in Los Angeles using only real instruments. It was produced by Woody Jackson utilizing the very same mixing board used to make timeless classics such as The Rolling Stones Exile On Main Street, T-Rex’s Electric Warrior, The Beach Boy’s Smile and seminal works by Tom Waits, Neil Young and more.

  Prince - The Truth.

A largely acoustic album, (yes, really!), from His Purpleness.

A hard to find album, which currently changes hands, in CD format, for more than £60!!!!

  Thank goodness for Tidal.
