A mention by LUTYENS a couple of days ago had me place this in the TIDAL queue. I had recently purchased the Just A Little Lovin' album by Shelby recently and enjoy it quite a bit so exploring another album from her catalogue. Through a few tracks and she has a sweet voice, fun lyrics and some great musicians backing her up on this album. A fun album!

Michiel Stekelenburg - Layers
If you like modern jazz with some rock elements, Michiel Stekelenburg is your man!
Allaboutjazz.com:
Dutch guitarist/composer Michiel Stekelenburg expands his group to a quintet for his second album as a leader. Joined by saxophonist Efraim Trujillo, pianist Jeroen van Vliet, bassist Guus Bakker, and drummer Pascal Vermeer he presents a sharp set of contemporary jazz originals. The opener "024" begins with folk guitar strumming, a sound recalling Pat Metheny, clearly a significant influence. That impression is confirmed by the implied dedication in the closing tune's title "Letter To Missouri" (Metheny's birthplace).
The strumming is followed by the insistent odd-meter ostinato of "Spudneck," then the ballad "The Nephilim." Trujillo sings on the long saxophone line of the theme, and the leader turns in a lyrical guitar solo. "Slowpoke" earns its title by the long, slow build over the course of the piece: this is a band that can hold back when necessary. "Viñales" (presumably taken from the name of a small Cuban town) features acoustic guitar layered with electric guitar, and a subtle Latin feel.
The aptly named "Jazzz" gives the group a chance to swing in an alternating section with walking bass—Trujillo and Stekelenburg blow hot on this one. "Morning Song" showcases the saxophone again, with an exciting solo over the closing vamp. The previously mentioned "Letter To Missouri" closes the album on a chamber jazz note. Acoustic guitar and Bakker's bass play a duet, which is eventually joined by an overdubbed electric guitar solo: a lovely, low key ending.
An excellent, varied set of contemporary jazz. Stekelenburg shines as composer and guitarist, and his fine band never fails to deliver. I look forward to hearing more from all of them.

Dave, It's been another lovely day here today, more of the same clear blue skies are promised for tomorrow right through the weekend. Coincidentally, just as you posted, I was about to queue up Daft Punk after Air but am going for some Donald Fagen instead.

Not my favourite solo Don Fagen album but I feel like listening to it this evening.

I wasn’t that impressed by it when it came out but it’s crept up on me while I wasn’t looking. Morph The Cat did the same.
I can’t help wondering how many new albums I stream that I dismiss too soon. When you buy something there’s a commitment that streaming, useful for discovery though it is, doesn’t bring. To me at least.

I agree. Streaming with Tidal (or Spotify, I assume) is a bit like radio where you can choose what is played. But when you've parted with the hard earned there is a tendency (or duty) to make more effort to appreciate the music. OK, sometimes you get it wrong, but mostly these days it is possible to sample on YouTube, AllMusic or other before buying. Another reason why I dropped the Tidal service - I wasn't listening to the 3,000 or so albums I'd actually bought.

Donald Fagen - Sunken Condos
I have listened to this album a few time of the past month and it continues to improve with each spin. I think we all need to listen to an album a few times since time of day, day of the week, where we are, the mood we are in could all impact that first impression. That first impression could be wrong in both directions, thinking something is great or not so great may change on subsequent replays.

I hear and agree with what you're saying I'll e-mail you anon with a response that would probably be far too long and off topic for this thread.

Asaf Avidan - The Study on Falling
A mention by EWEMON yesterday caught my attention and placed in the TIDAL queue. The album cover, the artist's name ' Asaf Avidan,', the album title 'The Study on Falling' all captured my imagination and peaked my curiosity to listen to this album. So taking it out for a spin......
Hope you are enjoying it as I think it is an excellent album even with the rip off sound alike a Dylan track
For me it is his best work and I have always liked his voice.
