Inspired by Dave M, on vinyl

Posted on: 12 November 2017 by ToddHarris

Number 834 is in the house! This is the newly released, limited edition box of both the July 12th and 13th 1989 shows from Washington DC. The boyz did multi-track recordings of almost the entire Summer 1989 through the Spring 1990 tours. SQ is phenomenal…Phil in particular is quite present in the mix (not always the case with two-track cassette masters from the 1980’s). Two very well played shows with Bruce Hornsby sitting in on accordion for a few tunes each night. Get it before they’re gone!

  Blake Mills - Heigh Ho.

Yes, I've posted this one in the past, but believe me, it's well worth giving it a try .

Quirky, it’s quite challenging stuff , but for me at least, and with no little perseverance, it has become a regular play chez Dave.

It's out there on Tidal, but be warned, it will take several listens before it all falls into place.

Glad you like it Todd.  Ordered this on Friday.  Looking forward to its arrival.

Now Playing......

Stevie Wonder - Hotter Than July

Now Playing

Need a little boogie this morning to get the feet moving, nothing gets the blood & feet moving like 'Little" Stevie Wonder!

Fine Young Cannibals - The Raw & The Cooked.

Moving onto something a bit more accessible than my last one, a great band from the 80's, and a quite unique singer, in Roland Gift.

This arrived a lot somewhat sooner than expected, which is a nice thing. First play for me; I've never heard anything by Art Pepper before.  I'm surprised how polished it sounds, given the unrehearsed and unprepared story behind it. It may become more interesting after a few plays.

All the talk on this forum about ECM Records has prompted me to drag one of my favourites out, on CD...

Superb album, Kevin. I recall Helen Mayhew would often play the excellent 'Blame It On My Youth' from this album on her Dinner Jazz programme. I used to enjoy that programme on Jazz FM in the 1990s.

Freshly ripped, first listen

Bryan Ferry - Boys and Girls.

Another blast from the past from the king of smooth .............. easy listening, I know, but it ain't half good.

My long-time favourite Beatles album.

Following Art Pepper with Freddie Hubbard's 'Hub Tones', which, at the moment at least, is more to my liking. It seems more inventive, more challenging.

Cara Dillon - Cara Dillon

Such a sweet voice.

Neil Young - Hitchhiker          (2017)

Have played this regularly since its release.  Really enjoyable.

Can't tell you my friend as if I do I have been told if I comment on any pre release that I would get no more promos to listen to.

Love to the good lady and wee one.

Band Of Skulls - Sweet Sour.

Begone, Señor Ferry's smoothness ............. time for some fairly epic blues / rock ............... quite LOUD!

One for any fans of Zep or White Stripes.

More Nerina in anticipation of next week's gig.

Ben Webster - The Holland sessions.

Swinging with Ben Webster.

Van Morrison - The Philosopher's Stone

Van's vocal virtuosity on this voluminous, varied and visceral album vies for my most valued vinyl (CD actually but I needed another 'v').
