2017 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread can be found here;
(1976)
Moving on to some beautiful, soulfully played rock from Mr. Trower.
Now Playing........
Keith Jarrett - Belonging
Keith Jarrett (piano), Jan Garbarek (saxophone), Palle Danielsson (bass), and Jon Christensen (drums)
Continuation of the exploration of the ECM Catalogue.....
Streaming from TIDAL
Notes on TIDAL: On Keith Jarrett's first recording with his "European" quartet -- Jan Garbarek (sax), Palle Danielsson (bass), Jon Christensen (drums) -- he stakes out somewhat less abrasive territory than that which his "American" foursome was exploring at this time. Garbarek sports a neutral, vibratoless tone that occasionally reaches an emotional climax; the rhythm section is supportive and just loose enough. The record operates at its strongest level when Jarrett locks the quartet into his winning gospel mode on "'Long as You Know You're Living Yours" and the tense drive of "Spiral Dance"; the reflective numbers are less compelling. Still, this LP-turned-CD successfully bucked the powerful electric trends of its time and holds up well today. ~ Richard S. Ginell
(1973)
Another earlier album from RT, he never gets the kudos he deserved. I watched him play in Aberdeen a couple of years ago and he still has it all.
Having realised that I have been neglecting Floyd recently I decided to correct it by playing this. This is a 'discovery' CD remaster which is definitely better than my previous version.
The Bad Plus - For All I Care
It's not dinner jazz when it get's frantic. But they seem to have something other trios don't. Can I articulate it? No.

Hi Kevin, Can you tell me the name of the band? I cannot make it out from the image. Regards, Jeroen.
Jeroen - responding in case the threads romps on too much for Kevin to catch your question, this is 23 Skidoo
Another dose of Floyd needed and this is sounding particularly good tonight.

I've just read some of the reviews on a well known on-line retailer - some are priceless. Worth a visit.
Just read them HL - really cheered me up. Thanks for the heads up!
Hilario...the charity shop one is priceless.

Brad Mehldau - Live in Tokyo
Allmusic.com:
Moving ever closer to becoming his generation's Keith Jarrett, Live in Tokyo finds pianist Brad Mehldau delving into a solo piano performance in February of 2003 with a quiet intensity, mixing a kind of studied jazz formalism with a lyrical "train-of-thought" avant-gardism. Ever the iconoclast, Mehldautackles such varied compositions as Nick Drake's "Things Behind the Sun," Thelonious Monk's "Monk's Dream," a couple Gershwin standards, and Radiohead's "Paranoid Android." Clocking in at almost 20 minutes, "Android" stands as the epic and expansive centerpiece of this intense, cerebral, and beautiful album.

Jeroen,
I have tried so hard to like this guy but I alway remain cold to his music (I have the album above). My therapist says it's O.K., can't just love everyone. Mehldau is about to perform at the University of Chicago and tickets were sold out in no time, everyone disregarding my view of him.

I’ve tried a few albums of his, but they’ve left me cold. The only one I’ve connected with is Blues and Ballads, which I really like.
When i was researching Shahinian speakers, one of the reviews i read (Malcolm Steward in Hi-Fi Critic) mentioned this album.
I recently read the review again and subsequently bought the album on a bit of whim.
It's rather good

I bought the 'Blues & Ballads' because everyone on the forum was raving about it but it hasn't worked for me either despite not giving up easily and playing the disc over a dozen times. Oddly enough, my first acquisition of his work is the one I enjoy the most:

I hate it when the best is a first album I acquire and then I start a slow downhill trip exploring other works of the artist which are not measuring up.
John Coltrane - A Love Supreme
For the first time ever, I have the sense that it's about the piano and the bass.
1968 - vinyl - UK first pressing...
FZ - We're Only It It For The Money...
Lunatic Soul, Fractured. WAV CD Rip.
This has really Clicked for me tonight.
