What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XIII)

2017 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread can be found here;
Son House - Raw Delta Blues.
The title says it all, raw country blues from a master, who provided inspiration for Jack White, among others.

I don't get this at all, but my younger daughter went to see Drake this week at the O2. A rapper guest fell through a hole in the stage, causing damage to some critical prop (or something) which made Drake offer to refund the entire audience!
She said he was dead good though.
Last for today.

A fascinating insight into the background to the recording of a truly superb album.
Ready in the queue, the album itself.
Yes indeed - I came across the R4 program in the car on Wed I think and thoroughly enjoyed it. Tidalised the above album - rather enjoyable.

Yes, I know I have posted this some time ago, but listening to it now reminds me what an absolute belter this is. Tracks so varied it defies categorisation but always underpinned by a wonderful bluegrass/folk leaning, supported by superb musicianship (particularly the mandolin), lovely songwriting and great vocals.
'Tis on Tidal if you fancy giving it a whirl.
nigelb - the fiddle player for Nickel Creek is Sara Watkins, and she has made several solo releases. The newer one, from 2016, is: "Young In All The Wrong Ways". If you are not aware of it, try to hear it. It will sound familiar from Nickel Creek but she has done so much work with The Decemberists and others she adds to a more wide-ranging rockier sound. A personal favorite from 2016. regards, Jeff A
Thanks for this Jeff. I do indeed already have this Sara Watkins album saved in my Tidal Favourites (probably from a recommendation by you). Will check out some Decemberists material though.
Cheers

Just a couple of elements in Gong got me thinking about this one from FZ, so on it goes.
Freddie Hubbard's trumpet shines in the company of giants as Herbie Hancock on the piano, tenor saxophonist Joe Henderson and bassist Ron Carter. Released in 1970.

Lucy Kaplansky - Reunion.
Very nice.

She's a very creative and accomplished musician and her albums are also well sought-after for the SQ and original copies are commanding a small fortune.

Very mellow, funky and easy on the ear with the great Wa Wa Watson and one of the best percussionists on the planet, Paulinho Da Costa.
Tony - that looks awesome. it's now on my lust list! Thanks for the heads up.
Kev, I know you're keen on laid back Funk/Jazz and this is very 70s and kind of outdated but that's part of its charm. And then, there's DIzzy... Nuff said!
Chris Jones - Free Man.
If you have got Tidal, I thouroughly recommend you give this a go.
Nothing to lose, and you might just like it. I do, very much.
CJ died way before his time in 2005. RIP.
Dubxanne - Police in Dub.
All the big hits .................in dub!
An absolute hoot, yet strangely compelling, it's on Tidal.

Never take my word for it as I always reckon people should make up their own minds by listening to it.
1976 - Vinyl - U.K. First pressing....
One of his best lineups put together with the infallible Charlie Haden doing the deeds on bass.
I've become a bit obsessed with this album recently. Original US red vinyl Motown from 2000:
