2017 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread can be found here;
LP - Universal Music 2012 : )
Malia - vocals
Alexandre Saada - piano, organ, vibraphonette, kalimba
Jean-Daniel Botta - double bass, guitar
Laurent Sériès - drums, kas kas
Daniel Yvinec - Vibraphonette, double bass
Such a beautiful voice. And this is an excellent recording of a live performance. It really is alive.
Now Playing......
Fink - Hard Believer
Fink is sounding mighty fine.......
Perfect with a nice congnac!

Blaze by Dirtwire
Released yesterday just downloaded and getting its first spin.
curious to know what you think to this Steve; you introduced me to Dirtwire (amongst many others) so appreciate your opinion on whether this sits with the best or not. Will probably try to catch some time for this tomorrow via Tidal.
Justin Adams (featuring Anneli Drecker) - Ribbons.
I posted this one a couple of days ago, and now I've had the time to give it some serious listening, it's a cracker from Justin.
To quote the official review :
"Drecker's vocal contribution comes in the form of wordless sounds without literal meaning. She has a form of synesthesia, meaning
that she sees sounds as having specific colours, which made her a perfect collaborator".
Ignore this pretentious twaddle, and simply allow yourself to become immersed in this multi-layered trance outing.
It's there on Tidal, so, spark one up, relax, and enjoy.
Tony2011 posted:If I could only find in my soul to enjoy this woman’s music as much as others do here. I think she has got a great voice, I just cannot digest the stuff she sings about. Lord knows I tried.
With you there, Tony.
I think she is one of the most ridiculously overrated warblers it's ever been my misfortune to encounter.
Bill Withers' - Greates Hits
I normally avoid 'Greatest Hits' albums but I have had this for donkeys years and thought I would give it a whirl.
Absolutely brilliant!! Wow I am enjoying this. The 555 DR I am trialling transforms this album.
A+3. 16/44.1 Domenico Scarlatti - Sonates Pour Guitare - Stephan Schmidt
This pieces were written originally for keyboard but Schmidt plays them as if there were written for his instrument. I fully recommend this recording.
Now playing......
Fink - Perfect Darkness
Continuing on with some more fink, the 'Hard Believer' album scratched an itch and was extremely pleasing. Funny how some days, some music just hits the right spot......
Streaming from NAS
Sam Bush - Ice Caps - Peaks of Telluride
Not sure if the genre should be described as Mountain or Bluegrass. Let's settle on Mountain Grass. One thing I do know, it is brilliant.
Pickin' up! Goodnight! Or good morning if you like!

Bluegrass, and yes Sam is brilliant!

Justin Adams - Ribbons
Going with the recommendation from DAVE MARSHALL and giving this Justin Adams album a spin.
Enjoyed the first track......

Trialling Nigel? Really? Sounds like a ‘prising from fingers of my dead body’ situation to me...
A+3. 16/44.1 Pierre Boulez - Memoriale, Derive 1, Derive 2 - Daniel Kawka
I recommend this recording only to the most daring "classical" music listeners.
Haven’t played this in a while and enjoying it now. I’ve always found it a little bit of a strange album and not all tracks work, but it definitely has its great moments. It’s very Bacharachian, even if Elvis was clearly taking the lead and Elvis’ latter period voice has rarely been better captured. If you’re Tidalling, try tracks 2, 4 &1 in that order I’d say.

I have just played this via Tidal and thoroughly enjoyed it, up there with their other albums. Enjoy it Paul.

Once the penny drops, and one "get's" Justin's music, it all becomes a bit addictive.
As I suggested a couple of days ago, when you listen to Planty's albums over the last few years, then Justin's influence is undeniable.
Enjoy!
It’s December, and time for Christmas With My Friends. These are great albums.
Clive B posted:OK, so it didn't fare so well when reviewed on Record Revie on BBC Radio 3 FM a few weeks back, and I haven't heard them all. but this is my favourite version of this beautiful music - Tchaikovsky's 6th, Pathétique.
Clive, out of interest, which version did R3 reckon was best?
Hi Higel, RE the beta thread where we discussed album art quality, are you sure you're happy with it ??
