What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XIII)

2017 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread can be found here;
The Howlin' Wolf - Anthology.
Continuing the bluesfest with The Wolf, on a blue sky sunny North Yorks. afternoon.
A word of warning though, this particular album, for some reason, chops a full minute off the end of Smokestack Lightnin', his best known song ................ sacrilege, so look elsewhere.
Next up, Little Walter - Blues Greats.
A lesson in blues harp from one of the Chicago all time masters.
"When people speak of a musical avant-garde, they are usually referring to works from the 20th and 21st centuries. But on this fascinating recording, pianist Alan Feinberg (B.M. ’72, M.M. ’73, piano) has found a cutting edge in the repertoire of John Bull (1562-1628) and some of his contemporaries. As Feinberg writes in his liner notes, “Bull offered up experimental, challenging works—pieces that so exuberantly overstepped conventional musical and instrumental expectations that they were essentially and deeply antithetical to the polite dictates of the upper class.” (BH)
Wilko Johnson - The First Time I Met the Blues.
From earlier this morning, this compilation, put together by Wilko, is a great place to start for anyone wishing to explore the best of Chicago blues.
Yes, most folks will already have some of the tracks, but to have so many classics in one place is just fab ............... this is the stuff I grew up with.
Back to the pothead pixies with Planet Gong. Original vinyl. I'm sure it would work better if the listener were 'floating' appropriately.

(1994)
Playing this old compilation to get a quick play through of some of his best.
Another very good one from Mr Adams. CD rip.

Elbow - Little Fictions. Just out - first listen via Tidal.
Didn't know it so explored it before
Now Davis...
Some nice blues by Albert King and John Mayall.
Clive B posted:I seem to have been stuck in a 1970's progressive rock theme for months now, albeit with the occasional excursion into folk/folk-rock. But given how good the music is from that period, I guess it's understandable. And so it continues.
nothing wrong with that Clive, often find myself stuck in the same period......always good memories of how much interesting music came out of that era. More good music since but still an important time for me.
My Life in the Bush of Ghosts - Eno/ Byrne
On vinyl for the original track list
On CD
Staying with the blues for now, Muddy Waters - Folk Singer.
One of my first Muddy Waters purchases from schooldays, this is less Chicago blues than normal, more acoustic treatment of some of his songs.
With Willie Dixon on bass, a young Buddy Guy on second acoustic guitar and Clifton James on drums, how much better does it get?
Cannot recommend this album highly enough ............. and it's out there on Tidal for those wishing to try it.
