2017 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.

Now Playing.......
Mark Turner Quartet - Lathe Of Heaven
Mark Turner (saxophone), Avishai Cohen (trumpet), Joe Martin (bass), and Marcus Gilmore (drums)
Continued exploration of the ECM Records Catalogue. Streaming from TIDAL
Note from ECM Records Website here:
Mark Turner is one of the most admired saxophonists of his generation, renowned for his exploratory intellect and intimate expressivity on the full range of the tenor. This is his ECM leader debut, following albums for the label in the cooperative trio Fly with Larry Grenadier and Jeff Ballard, and appearances on key recordings by Billy Hart, Enrico Rava and Stefano Bollani. Turner leads a quartet of kindred spirits here, often entwining in serpentine fashion with rising-star trumpeter Avishai Cohen. They play long, introspective lines of hypnotic grace; and with the lithe rhythm section of bassist Joe Martin and drummer Marcus Gilmore, there is subtle volatility in the air.
(1989)
Staying with another mid eighties album, this one a best of their early stuff.

Beginning of the end, Steve. It all went downhill after Green left.
On CD (CBS Nice Price digi-remaster with extra tracks) via headphones on the MacBook (Mrs Plane's in bed unwell)
Why? It popped into my head during the day ans, so... Incidentally I'd forgotten how good it is.

Nooooo....it opened the door for for the Christine Perfect/Bob Welch interregnum. Much underrated - Heroes Are Hard To Find is an excellent example of the bridge between classic Green Mac (and let’s not forget Jeremy Spencer was a slavish copyist) and the Buckingham/Nicks version.
Each different band effectively, but all good in their own ways.
This hasn't happened in a long time .. after listening to the whole album (2+hours), I just hit "play" again .. it's that good. Even the audience talking and coughing. Just fabulous.
Domenico Scarlatti (1685-1757): Angela Hewitt (piano)
Ryan Adams - Style 1989 - UnitiServe SSD
New to me. Missed him at the time. Some nice songs and arrangements.

Gary, I Remember having the same conversation with SteveJ(Dr) about 4 years ago about my distaste of the musical “contributions” that Ms Nicks brought to the band, apart from her ever so irritating vocal cords. I do believe Christine played a good part in shaping the band in the beginning but I never liked the “artistic moaning about their private lives in songs” direction the band took. That is just me though and, as you say, each to their own.
This morning during workout...
Second one of this morning...
Now listening to some nice jazz, with some twists...
A friend of mine at university had this, we played it a lot on his turntable and mine, he moved away over 30 years ago to do his doctorate, and I hadn't heard the album since then. I have very fond memories of it, and for some reason on Monday decided to see if a didgtal copy was available, The CD arrived from the river this morning, it’s pretty good. Lees was the guitarist/vocalist of Barclay James Harvest, it’s BJH with some other styles, I’ve enjoyed it, it hasn't grabbed me as it did 35 years ago. The original version of Child of the Universe is well worth hearing.

The what-ifs in music are legion. But for me one of the big ones is what if Peter Green had not taken that trip. The sorts of songs he was beginning to write were quite unique and special. I’d have been happy to have a Greenwood Mac as well as a pop one.
And that doesn’t even factor in Danny Kirwan.
So much damage done then...but perhaps without the dangers we wouldn’t have had such magnificent music.
Dexter Gordon Go
Had it on my NAS drive for ages, finally got it on Vinyl.
Fantastic pressing!

Please could someone explain whether these screen shots still need to be put on a photo sharing site first? The iPad photo library does not seem to link direct to the forum web page.

Yes they do, that screen shot was uploaded to imgur and linked from there.
Arrived yesterday, 1st listen. Excellent album, some Byrds classics, some of his own songs, and a fine Walk Right Back. Produced by Tom Petty, an album from one of the great founders of country rock with a couple of his Byrd’s colleagues and a couple of heartbreakers, what’s not to like. Joy in music shines through every note, a lovely album.
