What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XIII)

2017 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread can be found here;
An earlier album from 2009. Very good indeed. "Feelin' Good" is one of the great Bond themes that was never a Bond theme. Lots great interpretations of the song are around of course, including Nina Simone's classic from "I Put a Spell On You".
(See also Radiohead's "Man of War" for another great Bond theme that never was.)
This is such a good album, and probably one of his best.

A unique and very beautiful voice.
Roy Orbison - The Very Best Of
I didn't miss the documentary or the following concert "RO & Friends" (Springsteen, Waits, Costello & backing singers KD Lang & Bonnie Raitt) I've now seen them both twice. It's hard to believe he died 29 years ago !!! I first saw him headlining a show that included a band called The Beatles (I wonder what happened to them, they were quite good)
Mrs Mike recently asked me to download the new RO release 'A Love So Beautiful' It's released by the Orbison family & is basically Roys original vocal tracks remixed with backing from the RPO & his three sons adding guitar & drums. Yes it has all the promise of sticky sicky smaltz & I was determined to hate it. But no it sounds like it's OK - its different for sure, its not for an RO purist who will probably think its the work of satan & I agree nothing can improve on the originals. But hold on, maybe given the chance Roy would probably have loved to have recorded something like this, its one of those strange mixes but it works, the sound quality is good, the orchestra actually makes it sound nicely different, yes its a different arrangement but its not taking that much away from the originals, I really like it, well most of it ......... its not replacing my RO collection of his irreplaceable classics, but it is enhancing the collection.
Loud - a great way to burn in new cables
Lunatic Soul, Fractured.
This album cover always reminds me of a ZTT Records image from around the FGTH time.
A superb trio album from the late John Taylor.
Various - "Cantate Domino" (1993) A must listen for me, one time every year around the holidays.
Charlotte Gainsbough ‘Rest’
With a nice Burgundy and a Boeuf Bourguignon

(2017)
One of my favourite new albums of the year, certainly in the psychedelic rock genre. The Black Angels have never failed to disappoint so you won't go wrong exploring their back catalogue.
Now 5:55.

This beautiful album usual comes out at this time of the year.

Good call, thanks for the reminder, I've put it in a playlist.

Whilst I agree that it's a great album, PTSA is better, in my view.
Jack White - Acoustic Recordings.
Another album which just gets better and better with repeated plays.
As previously mentioned, not the heavily amped Jack White we're used to ............. just him, an acoustic guitar and a mike.
It still rocks, though. Recommended.
Expecting Canadian visitors this week, doing triple the amount of weekly chores around the house with the help of John Fields, Elizabeth Roe, and my distinguished entry level (love that term) sound system:
(2012)
Good rock music by this Camden band, It's a pity they never went on to do anything beyond their sophomore album.
Edward Aldwell - Bach: The well tempered clavier I
Enjoying my favourite Joni M album. Sex kills.....
Wasn’t aware of his son making agreeable music. Here we go.
The Raconteurs - Consolers Of The Lonely.
From Jack's acoustic offering seamlessly onto this one ............. which is really just another Jack White album anyway.
If you stray away for a while from the White Stripes, and listen to Jack's solo stuff, together with The Dead Weather, his other side
project, there's no denying the man's talent. IMHO.
In memory of yesterday’s evening of music making: Tingvall Trio - Cirklar. More than agreeable music. The woman behind Skip records was presenting the Trio. Buy their records !

It's a bit mean to say so, but he loses nothing when not recording with Meg.
