2017 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread can be found here;
Another album which is often played around Christmas time - The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway, by Genesis. I've been trying to work out why it seems to fit so well at Christmas, but the only conclusion I can draw is that it must have been around this time of year that I first copied my friend's copy onto cassette, which I must have played to death over the holiday. Wonderful album.
Now Playing.........
Lucinda Williams - This Sweet Old World
Streaming on NAS.......... This album from Lucinda is one of my favorite new releases this year, the voice with a little more gravel and the guitar playing as sweet as ever with a wonderful group of backup musicians. Sweet!

On CD:-
St. Vincent - Marry Me
What do some people think to waiste their obvious talents in such way ? This CD of utter beauty has never been followed up. A shame.

This is a very clear case of machines taking over our lives. I would disconnect the system immediately on top of calling the Hi Fi police.

Bill Frisell & Thomas Morgan - Small Town
Bill Frisell (guitar) & Thomas Morgan (double bass)
Streaming on TIDAL....... In the mood for some of the guitar and bass offered in the 'Small Town' album. Bill & Thomas are fabulous!
Note from ECM Records found here:
Small Town presents guitarist Bill Frisell and bassist Thomas Morgan in a program of duets, the poetic chemistry of their playing captured live at New York’s hallowed Village Vanguard. Frisell made his debut as a leader for ECM in 1983 with the similarly intimate In Line. The guitarist’s rich history with the label also includes multiple recordings by his iconic cooperative trio with Paul Motian and Joe Lovano, culminating in Time and Time Again in 2007. Small Town begins with a tribute to Motian in the form of a searching, 11-minute interpretation of the late drummer’s composition “It Should’ve Happened a Long Time Ago,” the duo’s counterpoint yielding a hushed power. Morgan has appeared on several ECM albums of late, as bassist of choice for Tomasz Stanko, Jakob Bro, David Virelles, Giovanni Guidi and Masabumi Kikuchi. Small Town sees Frisell and Morgan pay homage to jazz elder Lee Konitz with his “Subconscious Lee,” and there are several country/blues-accented Frisell originals, including the hauntingly melodic title track. The duo caps the set with an inimitable treatment of John Barry’s famous James Bond theme “Goldfinger.”
And in good old „Gleda“ or „Mi ritorni in mente“ tradition: Stefano Bollani - Joy in Spite of Everything“. Like the song title „no pope no party“ Stefano Bollani is SO funny. Just see him in concert...
Since it's the season of goodwill I thought I'd play something for the Brexiteers.

I had to think for a moment. Clever.
(1970)
Playing this for the first time just now. I'd purchased it a while ago but wanted to save it until the new amp arrived. Currently playing 'He Loved Him Madly', which already ticks all the right boxes for me. This could be getting a lot of needle time over the next couple of weeks.
LP 2 form this box set...
Which is...
Keith Jarrett trio - Bye Bye blackbird
This is album was recorded 13 days after the dead of Miles Davis. It's a dedication of the trio to Miles, hence the title.
The (style in which they play the) music is a bit different than most other recordings of the trio, but stil very good.
