What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XIII)

2017 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread can be found here;
Started this morning with this, quite interesting...
Checked this one out, if I want to have it - interesting but not good enough..
Very artistic with some high points, but also sometimes too artistic...
perhaps it's indeed time to tune into holiday mood…

Elbow - The Best Of | Deluxe Edition
James n - Dua Lipa recently released a 4 track EP called 'Live Acoustic' the first track is Golden Slumbers it is most excellent.
Thanks James N and TK421 for both of these. The box set wasn't on Spotify a day or two ago but is now. They don't have a 4 track ep "Live Acoustic", but I will search the web. Spotify premium does have a "World Cafe EP" (from a radio station program in Philadelphia) that is a five track. Anyway, Elbow is one of my extra most bestest favorite listens the last few years since they were posted on this thread. I appreciate you posting this info. regards, Jeff A
edit - Ah, my error, Dua Lipa is an artist doing an Elbow song, I thought is was label. I will check it out but my bad

More Elbow goodness before a move onto Kate Bush
Elbow - Little Fictions
And, I just learned that Golden Slumbers is a Beatle song, I have listened to Abby Road hundreds of times but couldn't name individual songs from memory so I have bumbled several times this early morning. And I haven't heard Elbows cover of that song yet but thanks to James N I will soon. Apologies for displaying my ignorance. Back to listening.

A little bit related trivia:
While visiting his father, McCartney saw a piano book that contained a poem by 16th century English playwright Thomas Dekker. McCartney changed a few words, put his own melody to it and worked it into an existing song he had. The original begins, "Golden slumbers kiss your eyes / Smiles awake you when you rise / Sleep, pretty wantons, do not cry / And I will sing a lullaby."
All vinyl this afternoon:
My latest copy of Critic dropped through the door this morning. One of the albums mentioned by Nigel Finn (of Chord cable fame) in his usual review section was 'Hounds Of Love' so it's getting a play now.
Kate Bush - Hounds Of Love
Don't play this album as much as I should but when I do I total understand why is regarded as a modern jazz classic. Originally released : January 1965.
Reissued (2003) Vinyl.
Just Finished......

I heard Hallowed be thy name on the radio earlier today and that prompted me to play the full album. Glad I did as I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Thanks, that made me smile.
When we have listened to 5 billion songs in our lifetime, curious what our brains retain for instant recall. Not being a musician, people who have performed a song may have better recall than a non-musician.
I marvel at artists who have written hundreds of songs and can receive a request live for something that hasn't been in a setlist for years and perform it instantly. On Jackson Browne's Solo Acoustic albums he receives an audience request that starts " do you remember....." and quips that people have a habit, now that JB is a senior citizen, of phrasing requests that way. His response is similar to "I don't know if I will remember, but I will try" and proceeds to play it note/lyric perfect. Wasn't it Neil Young who was known for having a notebook of his songs on stage during his solo shows to help with that situation ?
Anyway, thanks for your reply. Jeff A
Now Playing........
Ane Brun - Changing Of The Seasons
Streaming on TIDAL....... From fall to winter, the changing of the seasons......and Ane has a wonderful voice singing about all four.....
