Thumbnails and metadata disappeared

Posted by: Osteoclast on 01 January 2017

Hello out there!

I have successfully been ripping my CD.s via dBpoweramp to my NAS (WD - MyBook) and streaming with my Uniti. However, all images and metadata are gone since 3 months and I just cant correct this problem. Could anyone please give me clear hands-on ideas on how I should proceed with this matter.

Sincerely,

Thomas

First question. You have got a full incremental backup of the nas, yes?

What format have you been ripping files to?

What has changed in the last 3 month? Software updates?

Thank you Jon,

Embarrassingly enough, no I do not have a back-up. I will acquire a separate one asap. My Book has a "safe-point" function but it does not seem to communicate with another external hard drive I have, I just rebuilt the music file directory and that seems to have solved most of the problematic issues - except my recent Bowie cd.s which always have been difficult to rip.

Sincerely,

Thomas

Hello Adam,

Regular FLAC, level 5 according to dBpoweramp. Actually, nothing special has happened the last 3 months. The system has worked like a clock.  I regularly update the Naim software and the NAS software. Nothing else.

Sincerely, Thomas

Thank You Simon,

Just rebuilt the database, which solved 98% of the problems. Need to arrange a better back-up though.

Sincerely,

Thomas

Glad to see things are getting back to normal.

From your post above it would appear to be some sort of indexing problem.

I am tempted to question the WD MyBook (I've heard of issues with them)    Maybe time to relegate it to a simple backup role & get a pukka NAS on the front end.
