I would be grateful if somebody could advise me on the right amp /pre- amp/ speaker cable combination. I am a novice as far as hifi systems are concerned and for the last 15 years, I have had an AV receiver with a surround system and recently, having gifted this to a friend, I was on the lookout for a replacement. I have been reading about Naim products and I would like advice to build my system. My starting budget is around 8K.
I would like to start with a power amp. Either NAP 250 DR or NAP 300DR. I had requested demo from a hi-fi dealer, unfortunately, he has loaned both the systems and he advises that currently, it is a three week wait. I have recently purchased Tannoy revolution xt8f speakers. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Cric, welcome to the forum. To begin with, what do you have or wish to use as a source or sources - i.e. do you have lots of LPs, CDs, do you wish to stream, either from the 'net or from a local server? The Source is the first link in the system chain so it's important you not only have the the right source(s) for the music you own, but also that the performance is good enough that it won't be undone by too good an amp or speakers.

Three weeks might seem like a long time to wait, but my advice would be to take plenty of time, and listen to several different options before you even think about parting with any money. Some dealers are very good at guiding you through this process, which should be fun and interesting, but instant gratification rarely lasts in my experience.

Thanks for the reply. My current source is a Marantz CD player. I do like to stream music.
Any suggestions regarding the source.? would you advice on a upgrade?

That sort of budget gives you plenty of options. Do you wish to continue spinning CDs or are you looking to move to streaming entirely?
The NAC-N272 streamer/dac/pre-amp combined with a NAP250DR seems to be gaining a lot of fans on this forum. If you wanted to keep spinning CDs now and again then you could keep the Marantz either as is or use it as a transport into the NAC-N272's DAC. That's just one possibility that falls within your budget.
