Short Speakercable for AV

Posted by: Ardbeg10y on 05 January 2017

Hi Guys

I've recently added an AV2 / Nait 5 and B&W CM5 to my tv. All fine and nice, but the speakercable is 2x10 meters Linn K20. Since the speakers are 20 cm next to the tv, it means that there are currently ugly grey cables all over the place.

Now, Naim recommends at least 3.5 m length speakercable. Since I currently have only cables which are 10 meter or longer (also have 2x 12 meter cable), I cant test short cables.

The question: is on the level of Nait 5 also a 3.5 meter cable strongly recommended, or would 1.5 meter or 2 meter make no difference?

The NAIT 5 definitely requires at least 3.5m per channel.  The power amp section may be relatively small but it's old-school Naim.

Thanks Richard. Then I keep it that way. The Power Amp is working quite well by the way. I'm using only the Power Amp of the Nait 5 and the AV2 is acting as pre-amp. Works as expected and another place in my house having proper Naim sound.

The volume pot of the Nait 5 is not that good anymore - the first quarter is quite unprecise. Will probably send it in for service somewhere this year (once I know enough about the characteristics of its current state).

It may be that the encoder is going faulty - the NAIT 5 used an encoder along with a resistor ladder to control volume.  Best get it checked out by Naim service.
