F1 - 2017

The championship has not yet started and it seems the poor Manor Racing is about to go into receivership and be the first casualty of 2017. I wish them well and hope they can find a buyer and be able to compete this season.

It's a real shame. The costs have gotten ridiculous. Too much money given to those who don't need it. Is there a question mark over Silverstone in 2018?

Past attempts at cost control have come to nothing. Future attempts will depend on who is running the FIA. The present incumbent won't get off his ares on this issue.  It might be pension damaging. Meanwhile Silverstone are doing a convincing wobble. That's all right. "If you can't afford it then piss off" - seems to be the mentality.  But if they treat enough fans like that......

The problem with Manor Racing is, they are not in any way competitive...... Which unfortunately means they are just making up the numbers...therefore a pointless team in more ways then one......they won't be missed

Interesting news oozing out is Silverstone are threatening to leave F1 after 2019 because of spiralling costs of running it.  Or maybe (I suggest)  the fee's & the escalator terms they are contracted to pay to F1 for staging it.    The fee's they pay to F1 are low in comparison to other circuits,  double double + that of Silverstone Sochi, Monza etc.,  the only difference is Silverstone does not receive any government support.

Looks like Manor Racing are to be saved, good for all the employees, but that's about all

The jobs are retained until the end of january.  That means one week longer than planned to secure an investor.

They'll have to start charging their drivers more too!

As things stand, I can get a drive with Manor, for about the same cost as a big Mac and fries..

Hey, Maybe Mcdonalds could could sponsor the team?

Well things are looking up for McLaren with the launch of what is probably an very expensive and really ugly watch.

Bottas confirmed to Mercedes, Massa probably back for another year at Williams.

Wherlein to Sauber

As I posted on the 'NR Retires' thread  .........    The 2017 cars will be brutal to drive with so much more power & grip - probably a bit too much cornering force than is good for them &/or the driver.   Should be fun to watch - I hope

It's certainly unique. Although if the recent car performance is anything to go by, it may be running a little slow!

I thought my Seiko was hard to read, but this mess??

Another win for the blind designer college?

It'll cost over $1,000,000 apparently. Money and taste rarely go together.

Bernie Ecclestone has been removed.  Liberty Media who have bought out F1 say he has been appointed chairman emeritus & will act as an adviser to the board.    Chase Carey has added Ecclestone's former role of CEO to his position of Chairman.

Ecclestone is reported to have said he was forced out.

poor Bernie.....maybe  he can use the time he now has available to find his marbles.....sadly lost a long time ago

A change was long overdue and the fans started deserting the sport in droves a long time ago.  All dinosaurs are slowly being pushed aside or retired. Dennis, Ecclestone... who's next?

It is also the end of speculation of Ross Brawn heading  for McLaren as he has been appointed managing director. I always like his style and commanding leadership within the teams he worked for and  helped  to build, including his Brawn Team winning a Championship.

I've only just picked up on that one,  Tony.     per www.F1 .........  today announced the appointments in newly created roles of Ross Brawn as Managing Director, Motor Sports and Sean Bratches as Managing Director, Commercial Operations. These appointments are effective immediately in conjunction with the completion of Liberty Media’s acquisition of Formula 1 announced earlier today.
