Headphone Question

Posted by: mikeybaby on 09 January 2017

I am trying to connect headphones to the tape out on my 202. So I have an adapter--

DIN to 4 RCA (2in and 2out) going into the 202 DIN

I thought the "out" would work with my headphones but the "in" worked for a while and now neither one works

What am I doing wrong?  Thanks

I have never heard of anybody connecting their phones directly to the fixed line level output of the tape out. The conventional approach would be to use a headphone amplifier between your naim preamps tape out and your headphones which would allow you to adjust the volume.

Headphones are traditionally connected to a pre-amp through the fixed level output of the Tape Out and then into your headphone amp.

Mike, the DIN5-4 RCA Phono tape interconnect should work fine, but you need to be ensure it's connected correctly - IIRC on Chord's interconnect the Red and Black are Tape IN and Yellow and Blue are Tape OUT from the preamp.

Difficult to know from Richards reply whether he is condemning or condoning my post.

Either way I am standing by my advice to the OP which is it is not normal behaviour to connect  a pair of HPs directly to a preamp.

Likewise always used  Project Headphone Amp on my 82 worked a treat.
