282 and superline

The overall consensus here seems to be that the superline is OK if powered by a 282, good with a hicap and brilliant with a supercap. Does that alter when connected to a 282 that is itself powered by a hicap i.e. is the performance as good, or nearly as good as with a dedicated hicap?
I'm not sure I'd go along with that. The Superline is much more than just "OK" when powered off a pre-amp such as the NAC282. The problem of course is when comparing against a dedicated Supercap...
FWIW, and perhaps not so helpful in your case, I use my Superline powered from the AUX2 of a NAC552. The 552PS has a dedicated supply onboard for the AUX2. Very good it is too, and only a dedicated Supercap takes it appreciably further IMO.
I used to power mine from a 282 which was powered by a flatcap, I didn't like it so well powered from the second FC outlet. I then got a hicap for the 282 and still ran it from the 282 aux2. A supercap DR then replaced the hicap on the 282 so I tried the hicap on the superline but soon reverted to the aux2 of the now supercap powered 282, directly from the hicap didn't have the life of the AUX2 even if there was more detail (and I can't remember if there was even that). Eventually I got a burndy to run the superline from the superca, by which time I was using a 552 and then even the 552s "AUX2" came second. powering the superline from the supercap via a Snaic was inferior to the 552s "AUX2". The one arrangement I didn't get round to trying was the 282 from a Hicap and the superline from the supercap by either Snaic or Burndy but the latter is probably well worth trying. Looking back I think the supercap rather overeggs a 282 though it was fun at the time.
Dedicated HC (non DR) for my SL with my 282 which also has its own HC. Excellent arrangement in my opinion.
Richard - interesting - if I get a 552 I can save on a box ![]()

I will second that. In a brave attempt at 'economy' I tried powering my S'Line from my 552 and it took only a few moments to put the S'Cap back into the system (I had a potential buyer lined up for the S'Cap). Now the DR upgrade for the S'Cap.....
Interresting, sounds as though a demo will be worthwhile in that case, using the 282/hicap for nowand leaving the idea of a second hicap until a bit later. Thanks for the input.
I am lucky enough to have a Supercap powering my Superline and when I had it DR'd it was, for me, a significant improvement and I have never looked back :-)

Lindsay - you could with a 252/Supercap DR ![]()

You'll save on two boxes, because you'll be ditching the NAPSC as well ![]()
