Is N272 that good?

Popped into a dealer today to discuss speaker cable upgrade but ended up discussing the N272. He suggested replacing my ndac, 202, napsc and HiCap DR for a 272. Of course I'm going to do a home comparison but I can't quite believe a bare 272 will be an upgrade.

FYI, my source is a unitiserve connected to dac via dc1, 200 non dr into PMC twenty.24 speakers.

i know everyone will suggest xps dr and 250 dr but these can only follow when funds allow. I'm most interested in comments about the bare 272.

Lindsay, I can't believe you are even asking! You have a CDS3 for digital stuff. At this rate it's only going to be Gary and I left with them  ;-)

I hate salesmen .. there, got it off  my chest.

Having said that I don't necessarily agree with the disparagement some on here are piling on the OP's dealer.  None of you (besides the OP) were present during the initial conversation so it's safe to say you are not aware of the dealer's motives nor of his reasons for making the recommendations that he did.

I would rather take the tack that if a dealer was NOT talking to me about alternatives then I would be more inclined to look for another dealer.  Dealers are there specifically to educate and inform us of the product line and upgrade opportunities based on where we currently are and where we want to be .. yes, they are in business to make a profit, and we want the best music we can get based on our budgets.

if I was the OP I would take the opportunity offered by my dealer to demo the equipment in my home .. if I didn't like it, take it back .. if the deal wasn't right ($$), take it back .. just because our dealers recommend something doesn't mean we automatically have to take it ..

Dealing with salesmen (dealers) is a constant negotiation .. use them .. but don't abuse them.

The 272 is a great piece of kit, without doubt ultimately it has it's limitations - I powered mine with a sh 555ps and this really  upped its capability in a big way - I use this with a NAP500dr and it is very very good. But one thing i am sure of it will not be as good as a NDS/552+ etc, however, -  currently it is that good I cannot see myself upgrading - I am just enjoying the music so much. So capability wise I would not worry too much ..... audition it see what you think.
