Issues with HDX Internet Radio Beta Testing
Posted by: Purple66 on 29 July 2011
Are there any tester who have managed to get the ISO disc image for SW Version 1.6 from the download link provided from Naim?
I tried the download under MAC and under Windows in in both cases I found no iso file.
Recommendations to solve this issue are welcome.

Is there a tester who runs the new SW on a HDX-SSD?
I experience that after a few minutes listening to my albums from the mediathek the replay stopps because the HDX looses his connection to the NAS.
Anybody else which faces the same behaviour?
Cheers. How does iRadio sound from the HDX?
The 320 kbps stations sound rather good IMHO...

Hi DavidDever!
I'm running a QNAP TS-419P. Until this SW upgrade I had never issues with accessing the NAS via my HDX-SSD.
It seems that only the connection to the main storage directory for the ripped CDs gets lost. I have some MP3 files in an other directory and this connection is still there.
Did anybody try to step back to the SW Version 1.5a SP2?
Now working ok, ran out of CD-R's so had to buy some more. Problem caused by my lack of experience in burning files and directories to CD. Ignore references to ISO disc images as described in HDX HARD DISK PLAYER Installing and Using Software Version 1.6 document as this is not required.
Currently listening to Bob Dylan on RP 320k, sounds fabulous. Thanks to everyone for their help.
Best regards
JG
Also working fine with my HDX-SSD and ReadyNAS Duo.

Just done the update on our HDX here at Basically Sound without any problems.
Used Nero to burn the ISO image onto CD, popped the disc in the HDX and after 15-20 minutes we were listening to BBCR3 HiRes from the Naim's Choice - rather good actually.
Also played a few stations from far flung locations like Brazil, Fiji and Oz all played without problem.
nServe worked straight away too. Will try DTC later this afternoon.

I find logging on to some stations a bit variable, sometimes several goes are needed. Oddly my Qute is apparently better, accessing stations that the HDX refuses to join. Odd.
Someone try RTE LyricFM if they get time. It will not connect on the HDX at all for me
Firmware Upgrade in Progress
DO NOT SWITCH OFF
Came up and has been there for over an hour now.
Have tried to switch off via remote but no response.
Also tried iPad access and upgraded desktop. Both these appear to work and contain additional functions for radio. In fact all is well except no sound!
Perhaps you could advise. Only option I seem to have is to turn it off - the very thing it says not to do.
Help please
Nigel
Hi,
I have had no luck with the upgrade. I use the dropbox files since I could not find the iso file that was in Stevens first mail.
It took some time before I found out that the zip file should not be unzipped. But even after that I have not been able to create a workable disk. Until now I have tried both the udf format Windows 7 uses as default, and what Windows 7 calls mastered, another format.
Since I use ns01 I will only see messages if they are shown on the dtc, and at least the erros that must be the result of ns01 ejected my disks after 10 to 15 seconds are not shown.
So the basic questions: is it correct that the zip file is placed in the upgrade directory on the disk used to perform the upgrade?
And am I the only ns user in this beta?
Currently running System Version 1.5a sp2
I got there in the end: all that was needed was to place the Naim zip file into a directory / folder on the Pc desktop called upgrade .
I then placed a new CD-R in the laptop's DVD/CD drive, and used Win Explorer simply to copy that new folder to the blank CD-R.
The procedure then unfolded as described in Naim's PDF file for the V1.6 firmware install.
Hope this helps.

I eventually picked up courage to switch the HDX off at theswitch on the rear. Turned it back on and it went through the whole upgrade process again but this time terminated correctly.
I seem to have a fully functioning HDX with radio and very good it is too.
Sorry to sound a touch panicky earlier - all ok now.
Nigel
Glad everything worked out for you, I would be also slightly panicking if I were you!

Michel
It went first time and is working well with my HDX-SSD. I don't get how to add stations from the web portal but that's not within the scope of the test. So far I give it a thumbs up.
I am still out of luck with my ns01. Have tried to create the upgrade folder with the zip file in, on 3 different computers, windows 7 xp and Mac Mini. Still the disc is ejected after about 10 to 15 seconds. I will try to get my hands on another brand of cd and let ns01 try again later today.
hi all,
this beta program is for HDX only at present.
Clauss, i'll contact you via email to discuss options to move forward.
I'm using an iPad 2 most of the time to control the HDX. I would like to see that upon launching n-Serve, the app would return to the last used tab. For example: if I'm listening to internet radio and start the app, by default it goes to the "library" tab instead of returning the "radio" tab. It just seems to make more sense to me ...

Simple question: if I manage successfully to add an Internet Radio station on the http://myradio.naimaudio.com site (having first registered my HDX there with its MAC address and so created a new vTuner account), what do I have to do - and where and how? - so that this added station then shows up on the HDX's Added Stations menu (either on the front panel or via the DTC software, or the iOS n-Serve app)??
I cannot see how to do that documented in the V1.6 Reference Manual; on page 11 it does say the following though:-
"A vTuner account enables internet radio stations not included in the standard vTuner lists to be specified and added. Stations added to the vTuner account can then be downloaded to the HDX. They will appear in the Browse menu under Added Stations."
That has me stumped too. It's not the only way of searching and adding but it looks elegant. I just can't fathom it. Happily not a block to giving the new facilities a good work out.

Would it be easier to understand if the explanation was this?
A vTuner account enables internet radio stations not included in the standard vTuner lists to be specified and added. Stations added to the vTuner account will appear in the Browse menu under Added Stations.
vTuner is useful in that it allows one to add a station that one has found that doesn't appear already in the vTuner listing to the Added Stations menu in HDX (or NDX, UnitiQute or Naim Uniti) so that it's easy to select. A reboot of the unit might be required.
I understand what it is supposed to do (I think) but I cannot make it work. When I click a station in vTuner it just starts playing in a Windows media player window and does not appear to be added to any list.
