NaimUniti network problem

Posted by: ianruneckles on 06 August 2011

Wondering if anyone else has witnessed this problem I'm having? My Uniti has been working fine on a wireless network until today when I suddenly got a No Network message when using iRadio. Tried the usual rebooting the Uniti and router, no joy. Went into Network settings and the Uniti thinks that it is using a wired connection and, because wired takes preference over wireless, won't let me reset it to wireless. Tried a few more reboots, left it off for a while and tried setting it back to factory defaults. Still no joy. Any ideas?

In case anyone else has similar problems in the future, I managed, with the help of my dealer, Tony at Basically Sound and Vision who also spoke to Naim support, to sort this out. It looks like the problem was caused my the introduction of an iPad into the house!

On a tip from Tony, I installed NetScanner http://www.softperfect.com/products/networkscanner/ to check the IP addresses of connected devices on the wireless network and it discovered that the ipad had grabbed the Uniti's IP. I turned off the ipad and rewired in the Uniti so it regained its old IP. I then renewed the IP lease on the iPad which chose the next available IP. Turned off the Uniti and pulled the wire, restarted. Sadly still no wireless options, still thinking it has a wired connection. Gave up for the night.

Next morning, I found that unusually the Uniti had crashed overnight. Restarted it and hey presto, the wireless option returned. But then it wouldn't see my router! Restarted router. Still not there.  Reset to factory settings, router listed again, set up and all OK - iRadio and UPnP all fine. N-stream on the iPad working fine.

Happy again!

This is a good argument to be made for DHCP address reservations at your router - takes a few minutes to set up and you'll never have this problem again!
