I believe that we are a few years on now since this subject was discussed in an earlier thread in this Forum ...
And now, the Naim HDX and the Naim DAC are both with us (along with all the potential that they offer).
One of my US-based friends managed to bring me a few tasty DVD-A discs when he visited me recently, and I have purchased a copy of DVD Audio Extractor, which seems to work well, and is regularly updated by the author (although I would not say that it was fast). These recordings are very impressive when the FLAC files are played back through the HDX and DAC off a locally attached USB HDD.
So I was wondering if others could suggest where (as of 08/2011) I should start looking (in UK as well as elsewhere) as reliable sources of new (as opposed to used) hi-res DVD-A discs (i.e., recordings that include at least a stereo 96/24 channel).
(Assume that I have already combed through Amazon, and that I look regularly on eBay too.)
Thanks in advance for all suggestions!

AdeF,
You made clear that despite regular searching on Amazon and Ebay you are having trouble locating a source of new DVD/Audio discs. That's why in my earlier posting I suggested mainly sites where you can choose either to buy SACD discs or download audio files in high resolution format [flac or wav].
That's the nearest I know to what you want.and I mention it only because you have otherwise drawn a blank.
Best wishes,
David

Many thanks for the suggestions: I already acquire some hi-res material as paid-for downloads ..... but am less sure of how buying SACD discs would help me (especially as I have no SACD player).
If I had such a player, at what resolution (bit depth and sampling frequency) could I expect to extract the material from the discs?

Ade,
Your post prompted me to look at DVD-A prices, and I was surprised how much they are on Amazon, and eBay didn't have a huge range of used ones. It would appear this format is increasingly in demand with limited production. I'd be interested to see the replies to your question. It certainly make HD tracks downloads look good value, and I believe a fair proportion of their material is originally from DVD-A or SACD.
I have to say their DVD-A download of Deep Purple Machine-Head at 96/24 is awesome on my NDX->;NDAC, and even better when you crank it up. the fans in my mono blocks get a little work out

Ade,
I suggested SACD discs not for you to extract from, merely as an alternative source of recorded performances if you are aiming to expand your collection.
If you don't have an SACD, universal or suitable BD player, forget the SACDs. As you probably know the sites I mentioned offer quite a good range of downloadable high-rez files of the sort you are already playing.
I'll be interested to hear if you do track down a good source of pre-recorded DVD/ A discs.
