Using a latching DIN in a locking DIN

I am wondering if, as a temporary stop-gap, I can use an old latching-style DIN connector for the tape out on my Nait 2 in the locking-style DIN for the tape out on my Nait XS2. In other words, can you safely plug a latching DIN into a locking DIN socket.

I have ordered a locking DIN but in the meantime I want to know if I can use the old one. Basically I just want to confirm I won't damage any of the pins.

I wasn't able to find a specific reference to this via search, but apologies if it addressed elsewhere.

There is no problem that I can see, just be aware the old latch may not allow the pins to fully engage. It won't harm anything, just won't have signal.

I don't believe there'll be any issue at all, it just won't latch.  Normally, the latching key on the plug is designed to run in the standard index keyway of a standard DIN socket.

N.B.  However: Some manufacturers of latching plugs cheated and used thicker keys which aren't compatible, so if it doesn't fit then don't force it.

Yes, I have done this. But.... as modifying Naim items cannot be discussed, I cannot tell you how. Sorry.
