Qb Setup

Posted by: John3 on 19 January 2017

I purchased a Qb yesterday for the kitchen - sounds great but my question relates to setup. I used the Naim App to set up and connect to the network which was quick and easy. My only concern is that I was not asked for the network password, I simply had to connect to the wireless network name. I do recall somewhere in the process that there was a box for entering a password (and another box for verifying it) but this was marked optional so I did not enter.

Any clues why I did not have to enter my network password? My wireless network is secure by the way.

From memory, I don't think you have to. Somehow it just works. While doing setup, make sure you turn loudness off and set the distance from the wall correctly.

Thanks, I have changed the loudness and distance settings.

I am wondering whether the reason no password was required is that i used the naim app on the iPad to setup, which is itself already connected to the network.

My understanding is that it shares the connection that you have set up through your iPad, hence when you have established the network through the iPad and connected through the App then you're good to go.

Thanks Richard, that is what I suspected.

A further puzzle - the manual states that over a wireless network the maximum file format is 48kHz but I am currently listening to a 96kHz file without any issues.

The stated maximum resolution over wireless is really just a recommendation to play it safe. The Qb will attempt to stream any supported file format over a wireless connection, and will do so without any downsampling (as was incorrectly stated in a number of reviews at the time of the product launch). My Qb can happily stream 24/192 wirelessly.

I believe that the 48kHz cap is imposed on the multi-room streaming.  I'd need to check to be sure though.

I think you're right Richard...
