Me neither but if we can get a video of it doing so then it gives us somewhere to look...

So are you thinking for example of a video from my phone of the iPad doing it? Or is there a way of doing it in one device?

Hand held from your phone would be fine...

Thanks

It used to be possible (probably still is) to take a video screenshot by connecting an iPhone to a Mac and recording it in QuickTime. If you can be bothered to set it up, probably easier than doing it in a second device.

Ok I will try to do that although I may not have any time for a few days..

By the way did you notice that at the moment the forum isn't emailing updates to threads you are following? Unless it's my email service...

David, double check your notification preferences in your profile.  It may be that you have all e-mail notifications switched off?

Thanks Richard, but it's Virgin Media's email service is awol. I've just had one from the forum come through from two hours ago..

All sounds too iffy to me, especially re meta tags etc, so I've just cancelled my Core order.

I'd rather pay a higher price in the future than put up with "bleeding edge" teething problems, especially since my Vortexbox to NDS combo works just fine

Looks like a great option to replace my MacBook as a storage device. A couple of questions, just to be clear:

-will the Core "find" my already ripped music files on my MacBook and move them over, or do I have to start ripping all over again?

-if I purchase a digital music file, how do I transfer it to the Core?

-can I feed the Core into my DAC-V1 (which feeds into a SuperNait2) just as I do with my MacBook at present?

Simple questions..... answers appreciated.

No need to re-rip your collection, you can use the Core to find your existing collection, or you can transfer it to the Core internal storage.

Edit metadata first, then copy it to the Core downloads folder

Yes

As Chris says, it's yes, yes easy, yes to your questions.

Dear Phil,

is there guidance on MIGRATION from unitiserve to the Core, please? (I've just checked the support Q&A and could not find this). For example, would one simply copy one's library of .wav files from unitiserve to Core and let the Core recreate the metadata from scratch? Perhaps one issue might be that the coverart has different names on the  unitiserve and Core (as discussed earlier in this thread). Another issue will be any EDITED metadata on the unitiserve - presumably these cannot be re-used on the Core at the moment?

Perhaps it's just too early to ask these questions, thus would you advise those of use with a unitiserve or HDX to carry on for a few more months and migrate to Core when more guidance will be available? Will it?

Cheers, Stefan

A guide? no, but there should be for those of us who have hdx/US and want to move to Core.

maybe i should do a brain dump like the thing i did on core storage, but time is limited at the moment

email naim support and ask for one. the more requests the better

Dear Phil

My new Core took 60 hours to load 500 CD rips ex Unitiserve "NaimMusic" music store and 250 HD WAV files into its own music store.  In a number of cases album art and tags on the Unitiserve CD rips are incorrect.

Will the scheduled March release with Metadata management correctly reapply CD metadata ex Unitiserve, or will I need to repeat the whole load process again?

Hi Stefan,

It depends what you are looking for - there's a basic core simulator that takes you around the unit that is linked to from the Core product page and I have a few basic "HowTo" step throughs done that I send out to anyone that asks "How do I...".

Obviously at the moment there is an issue with importing a music store from 'old' servers when edits have been made and that is with the software guys at the moment so I don't know what they will do as a fix.

If you let me know what you are looking for in the way of information then I'll see what I can provide for you...

Cheers

Phil

Hi,

As I don't know what the software guys are going to do as a fix for this I can't say what will need to be done but I would presume that they will avoid the need to re-import if at all possible...

I've ripped around 90 discs so far and most of them took 5 to 10 minutes, I'm now testing it with a real stinker, a disk I bought at a gig (the New Druids at Aberdare folk festival ) some 15 years plus ago. It's a CDR and stopped playing on anything 10 years ago and I'd made no backup. The Core has identified it has 7 tracks but is still on the first one after an hour, will see how its got on in the morning.

I'd recommend you stop it immediately. You risk damaging the CD drive.

"Damaging" might be a bit overstated, but it's likely wearing it out as it hunts for readable bits. The servo that aligns the laser is presumable working pretty hard.

Ok. Point taken.

He’ll end up with a worn out drive as opposed to a damaged drive.

You don't reckon there's any protection in the firmware then? It would be a good idea if there was. It seems to be getting somewhere.

Posted on: 03 February 2017 by fatcat

If you leave it running all night, you might get your answer one way or the other.

Posted on: 03 February 2017 by yeti42

I gave up after one and a half tracks, I've got plenty more to rip yet. I may return to that CD at the end. I'd hope the drive isn't so easily lunched as I won't be the only one I'd bet.
