Hi-fi nonsense
Posted by: wenger2015 on 20 January 2017
I was reading a review on the focal Aria 926's Speakers and it was claimed that they sounded better in black.....the black lacquer that is used helps the resonance, and helps in the overall performance ect ect
I was somewhat disbelieving of this claim so checked this with the good people at Naim, the answer was ' it's a load of old nonsense' ...the colour of the speakers is immaterial.
So just wondered if anyone else has experienced what I would describe as Hi-fi Nonsense ...?
"Hi-fi Nonsense" would be a great name for a magazine. Alternatively "What Hi-fi Nonsense".

No need to add Nonsense to WHF. It's just a marketing vehicle.

Which articles would you like to see, Wenger?
The first edition should include an article: "The no-nonsense guide to hifi nonsense", explaining different types of nonsense, what nonsense is good nonsense and what is bad (in terms of hifi that is), how to identify nonsense when you see or hear it, how to judge the best value for money nonsense, abd how to identify and address compatibility issues between different types of nonsense....

Surely you can smell HiFi nonsense before you see or hear it. You know, that unmistakable smell of the countryside inhabited by cows and bulls! ![]()

And a column called 'Snaic Oil' where most dubious products are reviewed. Cables crafted by elves in moonlight e.g.
... a study regarding similarities in Hifi Ideosyncracies and Alternative Medicine.
What is wrong with elves working by moonlight other than there is probably an EU directive prohibiting such abuse.

Absolutely nothing. I think the said elves also soldered my speaker cables, using dops of blood taken from young bats' umbilical cords. So I'd say - let them be...

Is*t*k Full System Enhancer & Rejuvenation Disc:
"Fully burns in a complete audio or home theatre system. Fully demagintises."
"Rejuvenation track can be used as a daily warm up or weekly cleanse." - sounds like it could just as well be targeting the bowel.
