Remote Control for Nait 3r

Posted by: Jimmy Jazz on 25 January 2017

Hi everyone, this is my first post on here for a long time.

I have recently acquired a Nait 3r, which is not responding to the remote control. It appears that there has been a leaking battery in the remote control unit at some time in the past.

Does anybody know whether an alternative or universal unit will work with the nait?

Thanks

Jim

Jim, the NAIT 3R uses Philips RC5 codec so any regular Naim Narcom, Flash, or R-Com should work just fine.

Jim,

If the batteries have not corroded the terminals too badly, try prising the remote apart. There is only a circuit board inside, which the back of the buttons contact when pressed.

The copper contact area was contaminated with an oily film. I got mine working again by cleaning the circuit board contact area with a clean dry cloth. Worth a try.

Thanks Richard and Toe. I will try pulling it apart first.

Success! Well, partial success anyway. I can now change volume and select the cd input. More cleaning will be necessary.

I've found that some remotes have a "rubber" moulded key pad. Each key has a black area under the key. I think this is a graphite or conductive impregnated compound that over time becomes coated with "dirt". A good rubbing with propanol or contact cleaner on this and the circuit board contacts can rejuvenate the key function. When you press the key pad it completes a contact with the circuit board contacts underneath the key.
