UnitiQute Temperature

Posted by: Steve W2 on 25 January 2017

Hi all,

I know this has been raised on a number of threads (I've read them, very useful), so apologise for revisiting.

As a new Naim owner, I just wanted to re-check that my UnitiQute is OK running at 46 degrees.  I live in Sydney (obviously it is warm at this time of year) - ambient temperature ranges from 24-29 in the room the unit is installed in.  I suppose this question is about reassurance rather than anything else.

I'm really thrilled with the UnitiQute, it's the best bit of audio kit I've bought (not being the full-on audiophile type).

thanks,

Steve.

You may want to direct that specifically to Naim support. The manual for the Uniti does not state min or max ambient operating temps so it would not be right for the forum to speculate on what temp is not going to damage the unit or cause it to go into shutdown. Most units will get uncomfortably hot to touch before a heat trip shuts them down.

However, I use a UQ2 in a region that reaches similar indoor temps for several months of the year and have never had a problem. I find the unit fairly warm to the touch but not hot if there is space around it. However, so much as a single sheet of paper resting on it seems to break the thermal dissipation spell and cause the temp to rapidly rise.

I suppose another logical question to ask if your unit is so warm is what speakers are you driving with it and how hard are you driving them?

The temperature your UQ is running sounds ok to me. I have NU and I see similar figures during summer and even now in the middle of winter the temperature is well above 40. It's more than five year old unit and I have not had any problems so far.

Another UQ2 user here and my Qute runs quite hot compared to my old Nait2. I did question the supplying dealer and he confirmed the unit does run a little warm, but didn't specify exact temperatures. Mines's switched on 24/7 and to date has not suffered any heat related power downs, despite being fairly close to a central heating radiator.

IS this at idle or when playing music? you can disable the built in power amp and use an external power amp -- I use a 250DR which works very well

Hi,

If you are pulling that temperature from the system status page on the Qute then that is absolutely fine and normal ... my units here in the office are reporting 47/48 degrees.

Best

Phil
