Exporting UPnP playlists via iTunes

The release notes for v5.3 of the app mention this has been fixed.

I'm sure that's good news, but what is it?

Like many other I'm sure, playlists within the app are a bit of a mystery. It's easy to create them in the app, but it's also easy to lose them. I had a large one set up for a house party but it seems to have been lost in the upgrades to v5 and beyond.

So what's the functionality mentioned in the title?

If you use iTunes to back up an iPhone or iPad, it backs up the apps on it, including the Naim app. It used to be possible to find Naim app playlists in the iTunes backup, so although I never did it, you could, in theory, restore both the app and its playlists from there. Perhaps, with the 5.3 update, this is again possible. I might give it another try and see what happens.

Meanwhile, I'll continue to keep my playlists on on my Unitiserve, where managing them with N-Serve is simple, and I've never lost one or found it to be corrupted.

Will playlist creation and storage be available on the Core?

It uses the Naim app, so presumably it uses the same playlist system, which is stored on the individual iOS device, not on the server. All the more reason why it needs a reliable backup, I'd say.

When I've got a few minutes I'll have another look in iTunes, and see if I can find the playlist file again. I'm not sure if backing up playlists is the same as exporting playlists, which is what the release notes say iTunes can now do?
