Naim app - folders limit ?

Posted by: Benoit on 29 January 2017

Hello,

My music library has approx 1000 folders.

The Naim app (view by folder) lists approximately half of them - tried different devices (Android, iOS) and different DLNA servers (Twonky, Plex) on NAS hardware.

However, Bubble uPNP on (Android) lists all my entries.

Has anyone got an idea ?

Thanks

Benoit

The Naim app can has a maximum capacity of 500 items in a playlist or play queue, so I guess this is what you are seeing here? If so, that's just the way it is.

Thank you. I mean that I miss the folders in the *by folder* view, before any selection to play

And I would swear that this was ok before (when ??? not sure, a few months ago I think..)

Are 1000 directories (1 per artist) too many for the app to browse through uPNP ?

Have you tried a view other than folder view?  If you view by, for example all artists, the tags do the indexing. Does the Naim app still limit its output to the first 500 artists?

I though the app dumbly displayed whatever the server sends to it but I could be wrong.

You can certainly view lists longer than 500 files. Maybe it's long lists of folders that are the problem, but I don't have enough folders to try it. Maybe someone else with a large enough collection could test this?

Have you inadvertently navigated into 'folder view' to trigger this problem? If so, maybe page right back to the root and into 'tag view' (at least that's what Minimserver calls it) and see if that helps?

If only life was that simple!?

Yes it is the nr of folders that is limited. Too bad.

Have you tried using master folders e.g. If folders are names of Artists try dividing them into higher level A to E, F to K etc. folders where each master folder contains fewer than 500 subfolders.

+1 for SJBabbey's approach.  I've used that since I set my folders up and have not come across the problem the OP has highlighted. It also makes finding, say, multiple versions of the same music easier

Yet another reason to use Bubble or UpNPlayer rather than the Naim app.  Personally, I only use this for radio, which it is good at

Do you have any characters in the folder names that would prevent your DNLA server from displaying them? (I think for MinimServer a '.' will prevent indexing and displaying ...

I know it is not of much help to the OP .... but I have 902 (artist) folders on my NAS in one directory (with one or more sub-folders; one subfolder for each album/CD) and using MinimServer, and I have not experienced any issues with accessing them in Folder View via the Naim app on an iPad ...

Not had any issues with MinimServer and characters except that a - (minus sign) seems to flummox it, so I use a ~ (tilde) instead and that works well
