Tonearm lifters for ARO
Posted by: Ken Longo on 30 January 2017
Are there any tonearm lifters that work with ARO?
Yup, index finger on my right hand works a treat - much better than anything else I've tried.
The Aro also supposedly sounds at its best without a lifter (one less part to resonate).
Thanks, Richard.
I agree. The reason I ask is that I have reached an age where I would like the extra security of an arm lift for my ARO mounted on an LP12, if one is available. The Aromatic was no longer available when I purchased my ARO many years ago (Did it work, or is that why it was was discontinued?). I realize that the "floating" nature of the unipivot probably makes it difficult, if not impossible to damp the lifter's action, but the recent advent of the audio Origami UniArm with a lifter resurrected the question.

I don't need one yet - but when I do I would plump for a Tiger Paw Elevator

The Aromatic had a nasty habit of sometimes acting like a miniature trebuchet. Which was not so clever.
I have an Elevator on my deck as otherwise it would only get used by myself - does the job and, frankly, any sonic impacts are much lower than those from a broken cantilever. ![]()
I have a Q-Up on my rega tt and it works likes a charm. Similar to an old thorens model from the 70s. Best $25 i ever spent on hifi.
I've a Tiger Paw Elevator which works a treat and has no discernible negative impact on sound quality in my system. I use it mostly as a pause device, and occasionally for lifting off at the end of a side.
Ian:
You mentioned the Q Up on your Rega turntable, but you didn't specify your tone arm. Is it an ARO or some other unipivot?
Regards,
Ken
I found the elevator raised the noise floor a tad but I don't have a Linn. My arm board is polycarbonate which replaced a perspex one and adding the elevator was like going back to the perspex board. A Linn armboard may react differently.

Hmm.
