Supercap/282/headline

Can a 282 and headline be powered through a supercap, and one or 2 connections on the 282

thanks

While it is possible if you only have a single power connection to the NAC282, it shouldn't be powered this way as it sets up an earth loop that impairs overall system performance.  And of course, performance using both supplies on the NAC282 is a good step ahead.  Don't skimp, if money is tight then get a secondhand NAPSC, Flatcap or Hicap.

yes but it is not supported.

technically, 1 SNAIC would go to the 282 and a SLIC to the Headline. Apart from not being supported, it is bad for 2 reasons:

1. It robs the 282 of the second power feed which is the main point of using a Supercap instead of a HiCap in the first place.

2. Potential earth loops.

Just get a NAPSC and be done with it.

Power the headline through an additional napsc? I was powering the headline through the aux 2 but not now

Yep got it... supercap for 282 napsc for headline

thank you

Err, sorry, but thought the 282 needed to always run off a NAPSC (even when Supercap'ed), as the Supercap 'NAPSC' output isnt optimum for the 282....? (being designed for the 252).

So, it should be NAPSC plus Supercap for 282, and a 2nd NAPSC for Headline.

Yes you're right - it does still need the NAPSC

Yeah I'll need 2 , one for the 282 one for the headline

Yes, you'll need a NAPSC on the NAC282.

Don't power the Headline from the AUX2 socket - this also creates an earth loop.  The Headline needs a dedicated power supply, either an i-Supply H, a NAPSC, Flatcap, Hicap, or Supercap.  The last three also require a SLIC lead to take power to the Headline.

Thanks richard

Of course if you don't have a headline and prospect if buying another PSU is giving you second thoughts (though a HL takes some beating when the source is good and the PSU is good), there are plenty of other headphone amps out there that are truly fantastic.

I've not heard anything better yet than a HL2 powered by a HCDR (which is what I currently use) but that is one damn expensive headphone amp by any standard. Prior to that I had a Rega Ear driving HD600 and would have been quite happy with that if not for the fact I went for headphones that demanded more.

I guess the point is, your question seems like one where the answer could give one second thoughts and therefore rise to other questions of which the answer is, yes, a HeadLine is not the only way to go.

Hi zen, I have a headline but I was powering it through aux2 on the 282, I'm looking for a supercap and just thought I could power both 282 and headline from the supercap but now I'm going to power the 282 from the supercap and buy an additional napsc to power the headline.

Just out of interest, have you demoed the supercap on the 282 or are you taking a chance based on recommendations? Don't get me wrong, a Supercap is on my want list for my 282. I did do the dem and thought it was an excellent step up but then I put the SC on my SNAXO which edged it for me and the 282 went back to HCDR power.

Taking a chance... only so as I'm eventually looking to go for a 252
