App 5.4 for ios, keep loosing room

Posted by: kiba on 02 February 2017

SInce Naim app for IOS is upgrade to v5.4, I'm keep loosing connection between 272 and NAS (272 display no network)  To reconnect  I need  to reinitialise the 272. Is this just me  or is there a setting I miss, (or do I just have to wait for version 5.5 - Only thingthat is changed is the IOS version, before I have never had this experience)

Having similar issues but wasn't convinced it was the app until now. I experience random inconsistant behaviour across three iPads with three bits of Naim kit all on the same mixed wired and wireless network.

I've no problems so far. Might be worth deleting the app and reinstalling it?

Deleting and reinstalling the app after restarting the iPad hasn't changed the situaiton here. Email sent to support. Will update when I have positive news.

Unfortunately, I have to report the same issue as the above members.

For the record, in case it's useful to help identify where any issue lies, I'm using a SuperUniti connected by ethernet  and 2 x Muso-QB connected to wifi.

My network is using an Apple Airport Extreme (Downstairs) ethernet wired to an Airport Express (upstairs) which the QB's use as their access point.
So far, no issue since the update.
Now that tempting fate!

I'm on the beta team so have been through a lot of iOS app revisions,  and on the rare occasions that I've had room discovery issues I've have found a systematic system reboot and/or an app reinstall fixes it.   A system reboot is all off & leave the wireless hub off for 5 mins,  then start & let each finish its start sequence,  first wireless hub, then NAS, then Naim(s) & iOS.  When I reinstall the app I normally delete & then hard restart the iOS before the re-install,  this resets any links/issues that might be left over from the problem install.

Just for the record I have a wired conection  from 272 to switch, where NAS also sits. Tried to delete app, but no change. An example: open the naim app, choose music, play is ok,  leave app open. Then select app again, and there it's reconection, and from time to time, not every day,  the 272 loosing network connection, chekking the switch ii's all green, but 272 has lost network. To sort out I press "list" on remote, and by this reinitialise network connection, then its working again

Hi all, I exchanged a few emails with Phil in Support yesterday, Friday, and he seems to have what he needs for now. I was also able to test with the old green n-Stream (on an old iPod) and the Android app and they don't show the same behaviour as the iOS v5.4 Naim app.

same happens here , I thought it was just me! , it happens every 5-7 days and I have to shut my Uniti2 and turn it on again to be able to see it on the App

That seems to indicate a network problem and more specifically IP address assignment. Is DHCP enabled?

yeh DHCP enabled , do you suggest that I assign an fixed IP for UNITI2 in my network , would that solve the issue

DHCP is the preferred choice.

If your network is configured as per this picutre (courtesy of Mike-B) the network should be stable. I use 4 streamers on my home LAN and never have any problems.

What I'm trying to say is there is another factor influencing your network performance... IP phone, home automation devices, film streaming????

Thanks Adam, my network is as the diagram above , but I do have home automation and plenty of other devices I try to keep a lot wired via the switch , but still plenty wireless, and I have also noted that streaming Tidal and Qobuz and Naim radio occasionally stops for few seconds then resume ?

I'm not a network engineer (in fact not an IT specialist at all - just a decent experienced user). From experience..; I've seen some of those widgets wreck havoc on a home network. One of them may be even 'competing' with your modem / router for setting IP addresses.

Can you get stable iRadio transmission at all times? Tidal and Qobuz rely on external servers, so the dropouts you experience may be exogenous to your home network.

Just to tripple check: do you have your Qute hard-wired via a LAN cable, and you don't use internet-over-mains?

I get you, iRadio is mostly stable, and I do have Naim hard wired to my Switch (24 Ethernet Giga port) andI use no internet over mains

When playing either iradio or cd streaming from NAS, no drop outs,  only when choosing the app, it's states reconecting, and her I had the expiriemce " no network"

i am beginning to think it is an App issue ?

I get similar problems (ie reconnecting & can't find etc). What I've noticed though is if I select an album via app and just let it play, it's generally ok. If after starting an album, I then use other apps /surf web via the iphone, the other activity seems to break the link between the app & my NDX. Not sure where this points the finger however

That's quite logical - only one app on one device can control ND / Units streamers. Once you get back to the 'original' app used it will have to re-connect to your room.

Just to clarify - I'm only using one device (iPhone 5). I meant switching between other apps seems to have an effect upon the Naim connectivity

Posted on: 11 February 2017 by Adam Zielinski

Ok - clear. There is a function in the app 'stay connected'. It will drain the battery though, until you switch the app off by swiping it away.

Yes, thanks. Aware of that and it is set to on. I'm pretty convinced that doing other things on the same device whilst the Naim app is open causes something to loose connection somewhere. Unfotunately my IT knowledge can't explain further, just reporting my findings

I have this issue too. 'Stay Connected' is on but the app momentarily disconnects and has to find rooms again between uses...Only since the app update.

This both with an NDX & 272.

I also have "stay connected" enabled and have a similar problem i.e. not with the app losing the room but whenever I have used another function on my ipad2 (e.g. browsing the forum) the app defaults to the server list screen after "reconnecting". This also happens if I select an album from the artists/album screen i.e. after a while of the app being on the now playing/play progress screen the app will default back to the server list screen after "reconnecting" instead of being able to navigate back to the artist/album screen. So basically, if I want to listen to more than one album I have to queue them all up at the same time otherwise I have to reconnect to the server screen.

I found that IPad's behaviour regarding 'stay connected' or 'stay logged in' has changed between different OS updates. Whether that applies to the Naim app I don't know as I no longer ipuse it, but it certainly applies to Safari, for example with this forum: a while ago my iPad automatically logged me in to the forum again opon returning, and if I opened another tab that would log in also, but a few updates ago that stopped happening and I now have to log in again any time that I have done anything else in Safari, even when leaving the Naim forum open in a tab.
