NDS with suitable switch and NAS
Posted by: Evren Akar on 03 February 2017
Hi,
I have NDS with XPS-2 and using them with MasterSound Evolution 845 and Ovator s-600. ın demo i have Brocade ICX 6430 switch its connected with AQ Diamond to NDS and switch is connected to modem with AQ cinnamon. also western digital 2 TB is connected with AQ cinnamon to switch.
I am using EVO3 polaris for power conditioning. I use for amp and xps-2 super cord jubilee.
should ı play switch to this or not ?
what do you think about these ones.
- C3560CX-12TC cisco
- 2960CX-8TC cisco
- Qnap Ts-653A (4Gb Ddr3L Ram) Ts-653A
The IsoTek EVO3 Polaris is surprisingly basic, the small PCB has 3 VDR (MOV) which are voltage spike/surge protectors. IsoTek say it works on C&D modes & RFI so I suspect the little grey box is a choke & the rest are associated caps & resistors.. Evren says it works with his system, who are we to argue.
I tried Isol-8 powerline ultra which includes some filtering with NDS/2x555PS & non Naim amps. It maked the sound feeling more clear but it just killed the music. Same brand powerline plus (no heavy filtering) did not kill the music. Be carefull with those filters, especially with Naim, even if you have source only.

[@mention:1566878603907884] it seems really basic. İn my system İt works. May be my house electrics is not clear or our citys electrics can be bad. I mean there are lots of reasons.

By the way nds with 2x555 is awesome

So you're not using a Naim amp....could be why you hear a benefit from the conditioner?
By conditioner music becomes cleaner wider and more detail.

Hi Evren, I hope you are not misunderstanding me. I'm just pointing out that it's made this way. Some people are maybe thinking its a complicated power conditioner when it's only a passive filter. I guess you are correct in that you are affected by the city ( Istanbul = ?? ) electrical supply issues than are maybe some other places, so this little IsoTek is a good thing to have.
My experience with power filters tends to confirm the usual opinion of the forum, C&D mode chokes will also include capacitors across L-N-E & I believe the caps do something that suppresses the 'life' in the music as I've also tried a C&D mode choke without the caps & that did not have the same negative effect. I currently have a DC Offset filter on my system, that has no such negative effect, in fact it has a small positive effect, so I do not agree completely with the belief that all filters are bad (for Naim) Yours works for you in your system & location - thats all we need to know.
Why bother with any of the network switches and associated complications and angst? As an alternative, can I suggest considering a music store that can feed its output direct to the NDS. That way you bon't need to stream music files across a network, with all the problems that so often seems to trigger. Your NAS could then be used as a backup device for music (sensible even with RAID), and for whatever non-music nerwork activity you may enjoy.
Current ready to roll options include Melco (several options), Innuos Zenith and possibly the new Uniti Core although its sound quality is as yet unproven. A search of these forums should find many favourable assessments of the first two. These devices also allow feeding a rendered digital music stream direct into the DAC input, which may be better than using an ethernet link, depending on whether those units' rendering capability matches that of the NDS.
