How to use PLEX on Mac Mini

Posted by: MP on 04 February 2017

I have a Naim Uniti 2 and a Mac Mini connected as a music server. I only use the mac mini because I had a spare one and it works fine. I usually use JRiver as the server software but I have recently discovered PLEX and I have started to use it for my movies in connection with a Apple TV. I am now thinking of only using PLEX for both movies and my music but my Naim Uniti 2 does not see PLEX. Can anybody advice?

I have used Plex with Ubuntu and it worked well with video, but it didn't support wav files. So for me was a non starter. I now use a mac mini to serve my Music via Asset which works really well. What format is your ripped audio in?

In the PLEX server, click on settings then server the DNLA and make sure that is checked.

Thanks for the advice. I had not realised that PLEX cannot handle wav files. I have checked DNLA in PLEX and it works perfectly fine with the Apple TV but strangely the Uniti-2 cannot see my music files if I run PLEX as a server. I have tried several other server softwares and never had a problem to get started. I might just stick with JRiver for my music. It seems to work ok.

I do have Plex on my MM for the same purpose as you, but no longer have a Naim streamer so can't offer any direct assistance, though the  following might be of oblique relevance: when I first had my Mac Mini I used it as a server to an ND5XS. At that time I used the free Serviio UPnP utility, which worked great - but I only used flac not wav, so have no idea if it would do for you. I subsequently upgraded to Audirvana on the MM doing the rendering in situ and avoiding streaming files over the nerwork, but by then I had also upgraded the DAC as well.
