Source first..... I mean speakers integrates to the room first

It has come to my mind that the importance of the speakers integrating to my room and to my musical preferences have been underestimated. If putting the wrong speaker design into the game (based on above mentioned), no source in the world can make up for that....in my humble opinion of course.

I find it important to mention I auditioned Kudos S20 and purchased Titan 88 in my former room in the basement. After a lot of struggling, I found the room to be acoustically hard to solve. I sold Titan`s as I was a bit disappointed with them even with NDS/555/252DR/300. Trouble to integrate the top- and bottom end.

Now, I run my setup at the loft and S20`s on loan again. Together with my current setup, they walk over everything I had in the basement or even the loft room for that sake, in the aspects that I appreciate.

My end point is that; in the right room S20 are simply great and it makes me think T88 are another story than I experienced. Kudos to Kudos and to the dealer that is so kind to me , even if I cannot guarantee this is my final speakers.

Speakers first. That said, I still recommend quality upstream and to avoid "mullets" etc.

It's a shame that SL2s are so hard to find. If you have a solid floor and solid walls to put them against they are extraordinarily good. As you know, I have the same electronics as you and even though the SL2 is usually used with better equipment, they do work wonderfully well with the more humble 272/250. Good luck with the continued search - I don't envy you.

Stover - not sure of your room requirements but a left field suggestion for you would be the Larsen speakers - The 6 and model 8 would be worth looking at. If you like what the Kudos range do then the 707 could be interesting too.

I like the "sonore" sound from the Kudos and could want even more of it. T- 707 cost more than I would like. I know larsen, but never heard them, similar to Shahanian and Heed sound wise? I have a diagonally ceiling on one side making the 7x4 room having a lesser volum. That said, S20 work great close to the diagonally ceiling.

There`s a SL2 pair for sale, but they are black, I can`t stand black speakers and it`s been out for a while makes it a bit suspect. Further a nice pair with SBL from 95, MKI upgraded to MKII and new foam from TT, but what about replacement drivers when/ if needed? Most important, how do they sound compared to S20 and my wanted house sound. This is gambling, but to relatively low cost.

i actually took my (large) speakers and amp to someone's house to audition some speakers they were selling, which they happily accepted (and enjoyed a few pleasant hours). No harm asking if the SL2 seller would either bring to you to audition or accommodate you that way. If you find they are right for you, then you can either learn to like the black, or at least you'll know its what you want and worth hunting/holding out for. And if you find you don't like them, at least you'll know - and that will also help you evaluate whatever people who do like them say about other speakers. As for spates, if you,re lucky they could have several decades left in them, and you could always keep your eyes open for cosmetically tatty but working ones going cheap that you could buy for spares...

Well it's the old argument. As I've said many times synergy is everything but frankly you could have a full 500 series but with the wrong speakers for the room you'd be better with a Uniti and Neat Iotas.
