They are great speakers Martin. There are better speakers around (you don't state a budget) but whether they'd be as much fun as the Kytes...

What do you use them with ?

Yes they are a great speaker and in some ways preferable to Elas.  The weakest point is the slightly rough tweeter.

Having owned most of the Rega range I found the R1 lost a lot of the magic of the Kytes , but the RS1 regained the fun but with a smoother treble . A kind of Kyte Mk2 !   Highly recommended.

Thanks for replys ,so elas are voiced the same I'm am tempted by them .One reason for change is lack of port bungs and grills they have perished

Agree with Folkman I thought the RS1’s were rather good and slightly less aggressive in the upper highs, plus they are as easy to place as the Kytes too.

I wasn’t that impressed with the new R1’s when I heard them last year, finding the Russell K R50’s preferable by some margin (more expensive again), especially with the considerable price rise of the new Rega boxes. I’d either search for a pair of RS1’s on the ex demo market or check out the Russell K’s - although the RK’s need space around them so a bit trickier to place. Dynaudio Excite 14’s were are also rather good too.

I still have my Kytes in classic 80’s black ash! They have been downgraded to service as rear speakers in my AV system (Elas on the front, R-VOX centre), which are probably under used in that role.

You can get grilles and port bungs. Mine perished a few years back so I had some new grilles made up at the cost of £30 or so and they now look as new. Just search on the PinkFish and you will find a chap there who makes them to order.
