Two Instances of Asset Showing in App
Posted by: Gavin B on 08 February 2017
I have v5.1 of Asset running on my Windows 10 'Media' PC. The Upnp option in the app shows two instances of Asset server from that PC. One is fine, and the other is empty - no albums, artists or anything. I've re-booted the Windows PC but still both instances re-appear.
What should I be doing or checking?
Perhaps reinstall the app and restart Asset?
Have you checked in Task Manager to see if there are 2 instances of Asset running perhaps as both "Local" and as a "Service"? If so, have you tried stopping one of the processes in Task Manager?
Is it possible you have 2 instances of Asset in your startup folder?
Incidentally, one of the new features for R6 of Asset (currently in beta) is the ability tun multiple instances of Asset in Windows.
Multiple instances would be very handy - I have very large numbers of Grateful Dead albums and also blues, both of which deserve their own home.

I will try to remember to count how many Grateful Dead albums I have on my server. I'll count only actual commercial releases and not sound boards etc. I'm sure you'll have more but it'll be fun
I counted 94 Grateful Dead albums on my server.
Upgrade to 5.2
Thanks for the advice. folks. I realised I was / am running v5.2, having followed HH's advice last night. I didn't check task manager - I think I'd already looked at that. Asset was set to run on Service. I switched it back to Local and re-started. That, combined with re-installing the app has worked. I'll monitor to see if anything changes.
94 GD albums!! That must equate to two or three a year over a huge period of time. Do the tracks appear on multiple, multiple albums? Are quite a high proportion live albums?
I'll confess to having none. I'll start a new thread in the Music section to ask for a recommendation!
Hi Bart - I guess as Gavin is the OP he won't mind a slight hijack of the thread
Since you ask there are 168 albums on the server plus a few usb sticks I need to upload. As I said in Gavin's music room thread I mostly listen via Tidal as they have even more. No need to digitise the formerly priceless box fulls of analogue cassettes for a while yet!
I must admit I'm waiting for them to open up the Vault on a subscription basis but I doubt I'll live long enough to hear it all .
Sounds like you could spend the rest of your days listening to nothing but!!
