Need advice - Speaker for Naim Nap 300

Posted by: ThangPN on 17 February 2017

Hi,  after 5 years living with stand mount speaker, Harbeth M30 & ATC SCM20SL, I want to change for floor standing speakers. At the moment, I receive good offers from dealer for Audiovector SR3 AA, Kudos Super 20, Audio Physic Virgo 25 plus. My system is Naim Nap 300, Nac 252, Bricasti M1 Dac, Linn Lp12 Akurate level. I have a chance to demo Audiovector SR3 AA and impressed on its wide range of sound frequency, very detail, and air motion, but I feel lack mid range focus likes ATC & Harbeth. The other speakers is from dealer 1,700 km far away from my city, it is very difficult to arrange home demo. My room size is 3.4m x 10m x 3m (WxDxH), speakers put along side walls. Rock & Classic music (symphony, and concerto) occupy 70% my listening. English is not my native language, if I use wrong word, please ask me for more precise explanation.

Thanks,

Thang

Hmm, OP stated that he didn't like Focal Sopra's, and got two recommendations for Focal Sopra2's. Nice reading...

And be careful with AudioPhysics; the recommended placement might not work in your room.

Anyway, when Magico is too expensive, you could try, if available, Wilson Benesch. A used Square 3 should be available within your budget. However, I would advice you to save up for the Magico's, or similar. Your equipenent deserves it. Especially your DAC.

I have several time listening Wilson Benesch A.C.T & Carnidal in audio show, those two are driven by Dan D'Agostino, very wide and deep sound stage, fast, dynamic and balance in frequency (bass, mid, treble). But it is very difficult to have a demo in my house as the dealer in another far away city. Basically, I found that Wilson Benesch, Magico have similar character. Precise timbre, lean & fast bass, clean & clear voice. Wilson Benesch is warmer & Magico is dryer. I may keen on chasing the better speaker as your advice.

Thanks,

I also have the 252/300 combo and currently use the Neat Momentum 4i's (now replaced from the almost identical sx5i) with great results! People who have heard the system were amazed with the punch and synergy this combination produces. Kudos speakers also are a great match with Naim amplifiers as many have already suggested. If your budget permits, I've heard 252/300 with the Wilson Sabrina's at my dealer and was blown away! I think that may be my next step...

I recently had a home demo of Audiovector SR6 AA with a view to replacing my Ovator S600's, and felt the Audiovectors were a big improvement in large part due to the ribbon tweeter. I'd expect similar therefore between the SR3 AA and Ovator S400.
