Naim ND5 SI

Am I really the only one hoping for a Naim ND5 SI?
I love the budgetseries 5 SI, but cannot understand why there is no matching streamer.
Just sayin'....
I've been hoping for this for about 3 or 4 years now. It comes up every once in a while. The usual answer is buy a Qute set the volume around 84 and set speakers to none.
I tried this for awhile, but it just drove me crazy knowing I was wasting all those other features. Plus surely it woukd sound better without the volume control and switching hardware in place.
Also people suggest buying a ND5 XS second hand.
Good luck. Maybe when the refresh the streamers to the new Uniti patform we will get this.
The parts cost of the volume control and power-amp in a Qute or Atom is tiny - in fact the additional cost of marketing, inventory maintenance, development testing, changes to parts lists and production line changes is likely to exceed the saving in production costs from the reduction in the parts list - hence a Qute or Atom without the power-amp would probably cost more than the existing model.
Huge,
I get what you are saying, but you have a CD5 si, which is a lesser model to the cd5xs. It would seem that a similar thing could be done in the streamer line. Just dont't get why you couldn't 'dumb' down the nd5 xs or Nac-N 172. It does seem to be a glaring omission to those of us that have to live in the lower end of the Naim Range.
Yes. Well yes. And yes again.
Same arguments different year. My assumption at this point is kind of what Huga has said. The hardware cost of a ND5si is just too great to fit it at the necessary price point.
My sincere hope is that the newly developed streaming platform can be scaled down to a i series product.
The Core looks like it could evolve into the DAC-less streamer for which many of us have been hoping. It is the only product in the new Uniti range sporting a digital output. It has massive computing power and bags of memory that seem to be overkill for its main functions of ripping, storing and serving...
Not holding my breath though.
Massive computing power, but no DSP, no Wifi. Unsuitable for On-Line Streaming Services these days. I am afraid.
