Chord 2Qute - running-in time?

Posted by: Alan Rew on 26 February 2017

Having just bought a Chord 2Qute, I'm running it in by playing ripped CDs through it. So far, it's had 100 hours of this process, & vocals still sound a bit 'lispy' (sibilant) so I guess it needs more time to run in fully. I listen to a mixture of rock, pop & classical. Was blown over by a 2Qute I borrowed for a week from my hi fi dealer, so I have some sort of reference for what to expect.

Does anyone have experience reports of long running in times for the 2Qute?

Thanks in anticipation!

No, but I see no reason why it would be different in that respect from Hugo. Hugo did not change percetibly to my ears over nearly 2 years with it (and never any sibilance - though whethervthat is an area where 2Q differs I have no idea. My mipusialso mixture of rock and classical, through, initially, MF P270 amp an IMF RSPM speakers and later Bryston 4BSST2/PMC EB1i

Are you connecting yours the same as when you borrowed the dem model?

I found the 2Qute a touch sibilant on an SPDiF feed from the NDX. This did not ameliorate over time unfortunately so I went back to a Hugo.

Thanks for your experience reports. I'm not talking about a huge problem here, just a little bit more sibilance on some ripped CDs I used to audition the loan unit. Yes, I'm using exactly the same setup as I used before.

From my previous experience running in CD players, I suspect my 2Qute is 99% run in now, it's just that the last 1% will take a significant time to complete. From new, it lacked some transparency but over time the whole frequency range has warmed up & become more transparent.  I don't know why different people have differing experiences when running in hi fi kit, maybe it's partly personal (how we listen to music) and partly down to differing quality of recordings.
